I bought a sweatshirt at one of the shops in the Magic Kingdom last week. Just noticed last night that the CM left the security tag on it. No way of taking it off without ripping it (or having ink explode all over the place.)

I went to the Disney Store at the mall and they have no way of taking it off.

Any suggestions?

Do you still have the reciept from when it was purchased? I'm betting that there is a number or some way for contacting the store. Ask them what to do or if you can ship the item back and recieve a new item without the security tag. Or contact Disney directly. They're pretty good about correcting mistakes. Those things such pains. GL!

No clue as to where the receipt is. I remember I bought it at the Tinker Bell store near Snow White's Adventures. That's about it though.

ETA - Just talked to Disney. I'll have to send sweatshirt back, have them remove it, and wait for it to be returned.

Hi -
I had the same thing happen to me...different store though (toys 'r us). They suggested a heavy duty magnet to remove the backing off of the security tag. I brought my purchase to a hardware store to borrow the use of a magnet and it worked!!

Alternatively, you can call the Tinker Bell store and see if they know of another store (not necessarily Disney) that uses the same security tag - then you could bring it to that store and ask them to remove it for you.

Hope this helps.
Good luck.

this happen to me as well and there was another store WDW told me to go that used the same type of tag. I forget where, its been a while. I would call the store (Tinker Bell) and let them know.

I would go the the mall and go to several stores. Explain the situation and see if they have a similar tag and if they will remove it for you. I worked in retail and have done this for people as long as it was just one item and not a bag full of stuff that was obviously stolen.

*Hint*

All Disney uses is a heavy Duty Magnet to remove these tags.....buy one for a few bucks and it will work!!!!!

you can also call 407-363-6200 and they'll probably swap it out for you.

This is what we did when the same thing happened to us a while back. Several stores could not help us, but we finally found one that could, I think it was Penney's.

I second what PolyAddict said. This happened to me a couple of years ago and JCPenney was the only store in the mall that could take it off for me.

Is it on the seam? I would probably take a seam ripper and undo an inch or so of stitching, take out the sensor and then sew it back up- it would probably take 5 minutes to do.

Funny story-- I used to work retail and people would steal clothes and then return them for store credit with a big hole in the side where the sensor was.

One time this lady came in with jeans and I saw where she cut out the sensor-- and get this-- she STAPLED the hole back up. I said "i'm sorry but we don't sell pants with staples in them". ;)

I had the same thing happen to me, but from Disneyland. I went to the Disney Store in my mall and although they could not remove it, the store chain who also owns the Disney Store (something like "A Child's Place") or is under the same corporate umbrella, has the same tag remover. I took it there and no problem.

I had this same problem last year and called that number that bradk had listed. They told me to mail it back to them UPS and mail them the receipt for the sweatshirt bought and the receipt for shipping to them and they will refund my shipping fee back to me. I was hoping that they would refund me the shirt in exchange for my troubles. Nope that didn't happen!:)

Hot Topic uses the big magnets to remove security tags. I bothered them before when a guest had returned a hat (while I was not working) so I ran over to get the tag off so we could re-sell the item instead of MOSing it.

All WDW locations just use a magnet to remove them. Like others have said, just get a magnet and it will pop right off, no need to run around to other stores.

This happened to us with a hat. Don't worry about shipping it to them. Literally took 3 days there and back, they were very polite, and I didn't spend an ounce of time or money. The shipper even came and picked it up!

I had the same thing happen to me back in May. I was already home and had no receipts. I contacted Disney and that put me through to the store. The woman took all my information and a description of the sweatshirt. She sent me a new one with all the information I needed to send the other one back. I sent it back after I got the new one no problem.

We have had that same thing happen to us and they told us to go to JC Penney in the mall. They had the kind of equipment to take it off. We were in Greensboro, NC so do not know if that is everywhere.
