Hi there,

We have to go to Disney during uk school holidays and I have heard the best time to go from a crowds perspective is the last 2 weeks of August, just before the end of the holidays. Understand the weather is a bit stormy then, but guess that is the trade off for slightly lower crowds?

Any view on this would be great thanks!

I would take a look at the crowd calendars at easywdw.com and touringplans.com to get a feel for the typical peaks and valleys of crowd levels. January and September are lower in terms of crowds, but I don't know when the UK school breaks fall. Personally my family could not handle August because of the heat and humidity. It is also one of the rainier months, but my understanding is that it's more often a short afternoon downpour that you could wait out, as opposed to the all day dreariness that we often get where I live.

We did August 16-26th last year and while the crowds were low, and the prices were low (value season at deluxes), the heat and humidity were miserable.

Even staying out of the heat in the middle of the day wasn't super helpful. I think last year was hotter than usual though. We've been in July and it wasn't as bad.

We've been the end of August a few times, and it's the best!!! Yes like the PP said last summer was much hotter than others. I'd take the low crowds over the humidity any day!!
Most rides were walk on.

We will be heading down this year for our sixth late August trip in a row. We go for the last two weeks each year. It's hot and rainy, but we love it! And I generally hate the sun and heat. :)

Thanks everyone for your help and advice. It's appreciated! Will check out the crowd calendars and temperatures again before taking the plunge. Will be my 2nd trip to Disney and already I can't wait!!

We've never been in August I live in the southeast so I can imagine how hot it is!! Our friends (from the UK as well) went this past August and had a nice trip. It seems the crowds were low but the heat and humidity were high. I would recommend staying on property so that you can enjoy the resort pools during the heat of the day!

I love August in disney! It is my preferred month. I do like the later weeks then the earlier week too.

Get to the parks early! We do the early entry park and are there well before the 8am time and then we do a few rides and then leave just after lunch to take a break.

We all nap! My then 12 yo napped. We'd get cleaned up and go back to the park til closing and repeat the next day. I have done that my whole life and how with my kids and I can tell you my kids were never the ones whining and crying in the park at 6pm because they were tired (they chose to whine and cry at other times...you know in the room with their sibling...sigh...)

We dont do a park every day. A rest day from walking miles and miles is needed plus my kids love to swim. I only do 5 park days in a 10 day visit. My pool day is a whole day too...love those!

I also do laundry every day or two. We wear 2 outfits a day and my kids usually shower post break as do my dh and I and I don't want to put in sweaty, wet clothes again. It also cuts down on luggage.

my kids love to get wet so I wasn't worried about them being to hot. Let's just say they were soaked at times from some of the water areas. They also were not allowed to wear sneakers for that one reason. My son wanted to wear his brand new $$$$£££££ sneakers but I told him he couldn't go any water spraying areas and he quickly changed his mind.

Also we each had a small bag to carry with our water and extra water bottles. And because of that and not drinking soda with every meal I lost 4 lbs in disney!

And yes it is hot but I live in New England and it is hot and humid here too. That's why we go early, leave mid day to cool off (I used to swim during that time too) and go back later.
