Another price increase at Chef Mickey's as of 10/1. :sad2: Disney sure does know how to get people to spend their $$$. And I'm one of the schmuks who will always pay extra for that special experience. :rolleyes1

LOL, yes Micky Mouse is rolling around in money!

At least WDW provides some of the best vacations, that will be remembered long after the trip! :)

I guess I'm a schmuck too!! :thumbsup2 :rotfl:

I can't help it.....to me, Chef Mickey's is so "Disney" that I can help but eat there. Granted, we've only been there once, but it was the first place I thought of to eat on our next trip!

Luckily, I'm on the dining plan, so I won't notice the change!!

Me too, I pretty much know I'm not going to Disney to have a budget vacation.

Disney World, like any other place of business, has to increase prices every once in a while in order to keep up with their rising costs. It's a never ending cycle and a fact of life. Every restaurant raises their prices throughout the year. Even Arby's. They used to run the special of 5 roast beef sandwiches for $5. Then they raised it to $5.55. It's not the couple of bucks as a dinner buffet but it happens all the time.

The option you have as the consumer is not to pay the $30 for the dinner.

Oh I know it's my decision, and I know I'm paying extra for that "Disney touch," so it's worth it to me. And I'm on the DDP this trip, so it really won't matter this time, even though I probably won't be using the DDP again. But my point is I'm sure it's a supply / demand thing and the popularity of the meal with Disney, and not the cost of the food. IMO, it's the same thing with CRT, which I'll still eat at because it's the castle and princesses, but if it was the same exact food in just a plain building with no characters, I would never pay the same prices. Not that the food's bad or anything, it's just not worth that much IMO.

Chef Mickey's is one of our favorite spots - love twirling the napkins although last time there wasn't any singing or twirling going on.

You have to be in the disney moment because no other place would you spend $100 for 4 people to eat breakfast! I am guessing the rest of the buffets will follow......

1) And to add the their record profits.
2) Now, if the CM's got better wages, I would heartily agree with the increases.

NOTE: Yes, the CM's got a "raise" with the new contract. They received approx 4%. However, two contracts ago, they gave back 3-1/2%. So, they are still about 2% behind. At least Florida has a minimum wage increase next year. Some CM's will actually get a raise. Unfortunately, others will be less than $1 above Florida minimum wage. Before I am accused of being a bleeding heart liberal, I am a Pres/CEO and we pay our non-union people 160% of the county average ($16.31/hr to start). We also pay 80% of the Blue Cross and 100% of the life, disability, dental, and vision insurance.

I would agree with Rusty - no problem paying the higher cost when you see it going somewhere worthwhile. The cast members are what keep the magic living in Disney. A friend of mine moved to Orlando last fall after retiring from teaching to realize her lifelong dream of being a cast member. She's talked a few times about how the term "working poor" is alive and well in Orlando, and has seen husbands and wives working in Disney, on measly wages, and wonder how on earth they're able to support a family. (I'm not saying this is Disney's fault, I'm just commenting on the state of affairs!). In the meantime, I'll keep my ADRs for breakfast at Chef Mickey's!

We have ADR's for Chef Mickey's during our Christmas trip. The price during that time is going up $8/person. $30 for breakfast is a bit steep. I can understand a reasonable price increase, but increasing the price $4 for holiday time just because you can, seems a little excessive. Not sure if we'll keep our ADR's or not. Unfortunately with the new day-to-day room pricing and the dining increases during "holiday time", this will most likely be our last trip to Disney during Christmas.
