Do you experienced cruisers really feel the Disney trip insurance is necessary?

My take is that yes.......... trip insurance from some source is a must. Maybe not from DCL, because they may be a little higher than others, but I would never book a cruise without it. Not necessarily because of a cancellation (although that may be reason enough), but for the health and medical evacuation coverage. Of the 4 cruises I 've been on, people had to be evacuated back to the U.S. on two of them. That is not inexpensive!!!

It is not all the expensive to purchase, and like your car or homeowner's insurance, you hope you'll never need it, but it's nice to know it's there if you do.

YES! Buy the insurance - there are many plans that will supplement your own personal insurance and you need to be an informed consumer but you do need to buy it. Too many cases of injuries/hospitalization and medical evaluations that have potentially ruined people's lives have occurred and for the minimal cost, you are protected!

I'm going on Cruise #8 in April and have to file a claim only once (my own insurance covered the visit to the ship's clinic) BUT had it required anything else, then the other insurance would have covered the costs.

Just don't want to lose everything we have worked for to one injury or illness that isn't covered by insurance!!!!

Shop around, you can buy insurance must cheaper than from Disney. We got it for four of us for a 7 day cruise for about $173.00. Well, worth the money!

You never think insurance is necessary until you need to file a claim,at which point its too late.

I got very sick 3 weeks prior to a cruise and had to cancel. Thank God I had the insurance,got a full refund.

Interestingly,if you are on medication of any kind,insurance companies consider you to have a preexisting condition and may deny a claim,unless you get a policy that covers preexisting conditions. Usually this coverage has to be booked soon after initial deposit. The company I use requires I buy ins within 15 days of booking for example.

Shop around as coverage and rates vary significantly.
