Disney Institute DVC Resort has a Name now

It is - I definitely couldn't go to wdw nearly as often if I had to buy airline tickets! I'm 3 hours (by car) away, and have 1,000 points (bought a little at a time...started with 190). That sounds like a lot, but when you start splurging to book grand villas with friends and also cruise.....it's easy to end up borrowing from the next year! :D

Thanks for the reply;) , you are a very lucky being that close and having all those points(1000)!!:bounce: :bounce:

Great to hear there is a name.Saratoga is a beautiful area.:D At one of the member updates in July a CM let slip that it was to be upperstate NY themed. Now sell the points;) When we were on the ferry to DD this summer, the CM said "Don't be surprised if the Townhomes are just gutted out and renovated."Have they actually started tearing the buildings down yet? As of the end of July they were all still standing.

I agree with tripletvan, Saratoga is nothing like cape cod. I have grown up in this area and my brother lives there. It is the "August Place to Be" with all of the glamour and money that comes into town for the Thorobred racing. You have more money and giant victorian homes that you could imagine. There's Polo that takes place along with some of your top names from around the world. Cape Cod is very quaint and quiet, beach towns. I sure hope they develop according to the style that exists, If they want Cape cod then use Martha's vineyard or Nantucket or one of the cape towns. Can't wait to see the style and then i will see what I can do with Hubby about points. I sure hope they give NY'ers incentives, after all they are using one of our towns for the resorts name. :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

madcoco,

I think that CM might have been right about just gutting the existing townhomes and remodeling them. When we were there in August, I could tell from the boat leaving DD that the inside of the villas were gutted out and it did not appear that any demolition had started. It also appeared that guests were still using the Treehouse villas (the entrance was not blocked off and there were lights on in some at night). At the member update, the CM stated that Eagle Pines has not been shelved but is on the back burner since it would take longer to build from scratch rather than renovate/rebuild at DI. She claims this was done because of how quickly BCV has sold. She also said that the villas at DI are still scheduled to open in early 2004.

We were there last week and noticed lights in the Treehouse Villas one night (unless they were just ghosts) and when I was walking the path to DD I did not see any demolition going on at all. You could see "snow fences" or construction fences from across the pond in DD, however.

I see you have 4 trips planned in the next 9 months. I wonder if anybody can top that??;)

We really miss our "HOME" and since we did the add on this year we can go more....also trying to get the most of the AP's.

I know this doesn't affect too many people :( But if they use the existing Townhouses, how are they going to make the townhouses handicapped accessible? I won't be able to stay there :(

Anyone know if they are going to keep or rebuild the treehouse villas?

We sure hope they don't do away with them... we'd love to stay in a treehouse at least once  Are they 1-br or 2-br now?

so what will be the shorthand for this resort?

SR
SRS
SRV
VSR

Disney picks the initials first, so they don't match any of their other many acronyms. Then they find a name to go with the initials ;)

It sounds like a nice resort, but I also don't get the Cape Cod theming. That would be too much like the Beach Club imo.

Oh no!! This is terrible news. We have to start saving now for another add-on. It sounds as if it's going to be very tempting!

My dvc guide told me they were going to tear down all the old buildings and build new ones.

Maybe what they mean by a Saratoga name with Cape Cod style will be that they will have constant traffic jams during July and August just like Saratoga and the Cape!;)

I think the Saratoga Springs Resort is supposed to have a Chautaqua theme (www.chautaquainstitute.org) This was reported in the Orlando Sentinel about 2 or 3 months ago... it's the only thing we have seen in print since the declaration of the resort itself...

At least some of the treehouses were renovated in the last 3 years.
Three years ago, when we rented a boat and went from OKW to DD and toward PO, we could see Treehouse Villas along the water that were being renovated. They were stripped down to bare rafters and framing (they looked like skeleton treehouses). The next year, those were back in use and we could see others were getting the same treatment. This year, we didn't see anything along the water. I don't know if they were done renovating or just done with the ones you can see from the waterway.

If they are gutting them out to the bare framing, there is a lot they can do to make them handicapped accessible. Besides, if they renovate, they have to make some of them accessible.

Can't wait until the presale for SSRV!!!! Yippi, got another chance to add another picture to my DVC collection.

Fortunately, those ugly townhouses are being knocked to the ground - completely! I was in one once, and they're nasty - nowhere near dvc standards. Anyway, one section is already down, and the rest are fenced off. I'm assuming once they're all down, they'll work on the site (land) and begin the new construction.

Glad to hear they have already started to take them down!! I was a little afraid they'd try to renovate them TOO!!!

We live in the "Real Saratoga" and the kids are anxious to wear their SS HS Cross country shirt there. The girls team is #1 in the country. If they are going to do a Saratoga theme then it should be very victorian. The peppermint pig which was a victorian christmas treat here will be used in the theme also. Our local paper had reported this week
