My husband and I are planning to take our kids to Disney next year. We had decided on October but I don't think I can wait that long. June has the same prices as October, so my question to you all is which is better?
my vote is october --- better weather -- not as hot - still warm enough to swim and wear shorts (we come from new england). Plus alot of the halloween, fall stuff will be out and you might be able to go to mickeys not so scarry halloween party. For the past 3 years we have gone in Sept/october and loved it.

We went in October for the first time in 2009, and we loved it! It was a little on the warm side (we've been on a streak of record highs and record lows the last few years), but the crowds were really managable. We've never been in June.
I think it also depends on what you might want to see. Obviously, if you want to see the Halloween stuff, then October is the way to go. My only complaint was that on the nights that they have the Halloween Party, MK closes early- and we don't do the parties. In June, some parts of the country might be done with school, so it might be more crowded because of that. But hours can be longer as well, which would be a benefit. I believe Fantasmic was only shown twice a week when we went last, so that could be a factor in June's favor.
Perhaps you can do what we do- get annual passes and go both times!
Either would be great but I would go the first week of June if that's the month you decide. The later in the you go the hotter and more crowded it will be. HAPPY PLANNING!
I have been in both June and October. They both have their good points and their bad points. But we choose October now because it is cooler and the crowds are less. You can still wear shorts and swim in the pools, but it does not get to the scorching temps that it does it June. But, of course, any time is a great time for WDW!
It depends on your preferences: June has longer hours and possibly Star Wars Weekend. October has better weather (cooler temps), is noticeably less crowded, and as everyone else has mentioned, has Halloween decorations. As an added bonus, October also has the food and wine festival at Epcot. If you are on DDP or QS plan, I would definitely use my snack credits at the food and wine festival. My family went in October in 2009, and it was one of our best trips, as the kids loved Halloween and my wife and I loved grazing on various foods around the world showcase.
Either way, you can't go wrong as Disney is fun any time of the year. Have fun planning. In a perfect world as a pp stated, get an AP and go both times!
we were there October 1-9th last year and it was great! It was incredibly warm though, so i can't imagine how it is there in june! it wasn't hot enough that we felt we needed to be in the pool the whole time, but definitely hot enough to need to step inside every once in a while to cool off!
the crowds were awesome though, hardly ever had to wait in line for anything! we went on thunder mountain 4 times in a row and never had to wait :0) it was great, i would go back again in the fall, but maybe wait til the end of the month so it wont be so hot!
Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Disney's Hollywood Studios are a lot of fun after dark, and you'll often find a special night parade, fireworks, and/or shows that only happen when the park is open late. For ex., during a visit we made in June, day-time crowds were intense but night-time in MK was delightful: no wait for rides, fireworks at 10, and at 11 pm, an extra Spectral Parade. Peak periods do have their benefits.
October. Halloween party, cooler temps, lower crowds, possibility of free dining (more likely if you go late September, but you will still have the Halloween stuff out).
October is our favorite time to go. The weather is cooler, but still warm enough to swim. Plus the chances of rain are slimmer. Not to mention the crowds are lighter.
If you can avoid the Columbus Day weekend as it gets more crowded. Epcot on the weekends in October will also be more crowded with the Food and Wine Festival.
We've done both (June 09 and Oct 08). Given the choice, I would pick Oct. First because the crowds are much lighter and the weather is more pleasant. You'll have sunny days without the everyday rain shower. However, if you want to go for the parties, then that forces you to pick certain months. I wanted to go to Star Wars weekends, so we went the from 6/3-14. The year before, I wanted to go to the halloween party, so I picked the 3rd week of October. I would never do the summer because it's way too hot and crowded for me, but we wanted SWW when school was out, so we suffered through the heat. You just make the best of each trip!!!
