Saturday 12/9
We woke up this morning at 8:00am and although we knew it was inevitable, we were sad to find our DME tags on the door. But it was my birthday and I was determined to make it the best one yet! I was actually kind of happy to have them on the door in the morning, rather than come back at night and have ruin the whole day. Of course, I was still sick – feverish, runny nose, etc. I had been chugging down orange juice, seemingly by the gallon since I first started feeling sick on Wednesday. I think it helped to not make my symptoms any worse, but they certainly were not going away. The mornings were the worst, and I was usually feeling better by the afternoon so I hoped it would be the same today.
We were on a bus to the MK by 8:30 so we could make it to Crystal Palace for our 9:05am reservation. I downed more orange juice along with my scrambled eggs, Mickey waffles, and sausage. Eeyore walked through our section just before we were seated so we didn’t get to hang out with him, but we did get some time with Piglet, Pooh, & (my favorite) Tigger.
Breakfast was very good and after Crystal Palace, our 2nd character dining experience, we decided that we are definitely doing more of these…They are sooo fun! Our server gave me a birthday cupcake (which I took with me in a plastic baggie since it was only 9:45am by the time we left) and a birthday card signed by all of the Winnie-the-Pooh characters.
After breakfast, the first place we headed for was Toontown since we didn’t get to it the first day we were here in the Magic Kingdom. We saw Goofy riding the Barnstormer but I was totally unprepared and did not get a picture. I really wanted to ride, as neither of us have ever done it before, but as we got in line I started having flashbacks of Pocahontas & her Forest Friends and I suddenly felt weird getting on. Keep in mind there were no other “adult only” parties getting on…. Have any adults out there ever gone on this without kids? We got out of line and went into County Bounty instead. Lumar wandered off to parts unknown and I was looking (where else?) in the scrapbooking area. I was actually looking at picture frames, decided whether or not to buy the square blue one with the words to “A Whole New World” on it, when a giant white hand appeared in my face…It was Goofy! Apparently he saw me standing there alone and stopped by just to say hello and happy birthday (he saw my birthday button)! It was awesome to have one on one character interaction like that, but of course my boyfriend was MIA so once again, I did not get a picture. We bought 2 coloring books and a pack of colored pencils for my God-son and God-daughter (Princesses and Incredibles), Lumar bought a small snowglobe that has Mickey looking through a trunk and pulling out his outfits from his most memorably cartoons (Mickey from Steamboat Willie is in the globe) and then we left. We got on the train and rode it all the way around the park to Main Street where we got off and met Clarabelle & Horace!
We walked around Main Street for a little while looking for Robin Hood who normally hangs out around here in the morning, but we couldn’t find him anywhere. I even stopped to ask two different CM’s if they knew if he would be out and both of them said “not until later today.” I was a little disappointed since he is one of my favorite characters, but I made a mental note to just check back here later today. The second CM I talked to told me to try Fantasyland too, since he showed up there sometimes, over by the Teacups. The crane was still up behind the castle which was upsetting because the work was supposed to be done by December 5th? It wasn’t there when we were in the Magic Kingdom on the 4th and it wasn’t here during
MVMCP…why was it here now? I figured that was God’s way of telling me I really didn’t need anymore pictures of the castle…so we got our picture taken in front of the giant Christmas Tree instead.
We started with Tomorrowland since we never really spend enough time here. We got FP’s for Buzz (another new ride for us!) and then went on TTA (something else we had never done) where we got stuck for 10 minutes. It was kind of relaxing to be up there, away from everyone down on the ground was rushing around, but it was cold! Riding through Space Mountain was the best part! After we got off of that, we went and got FP’s for Space, then went and rode Buzz. It was so much fun but I totally suck at those kind of games…I have the worst aim in the world. After Buzz we went on the Carousel of Progress for the first time. Buzz Lightyear was actually standing at the entrance doing meet & greets when we got there but he was just finishing up with his last guest so we didn’t get to meet him. We really enjoyed this attraction and I know a lot of people say it needs to be updated but I kind of like it the way it is. After CoP we hung out with Stitch for a minute (he was just wandering around by himself, with a CM of course, outside of the ride exit)
and then we went over to Space. I read somewhere (maybe on the DIS but I can’t remember for sure) that the last time a Disney Park refurbed it took 3 years to complete, with the ride closed down for that entire time. I certainly don’t want our Space closed for that long, but wow, the tracks need to be rehabbed or something. It’s so loud and jerky that I got a HUGE headache after riding it. We still had a blast but I was very happy that I remembered to bring my Excedrin with me today.
After Space we went back through Main Street to see if Robin Hood was out there yet but still nothing so we walked all the way across to Adventureland. There were no FP’s left for Pirates and there was a 40 minute wait so we went to Liberty Square and got in line for the Haunted Mansion instead, which only had a 10 minute wait. There were rumors going around both on the DIS and in other places (including the mall, because Lumar heard it from the Manager at the
Disney Store) that they were going to add Eddie Murphy AA’s to this ride but I really hope that’s not true…Not because I don’t like Eddie Murphy but to me, the ride is timeless, the movie: not so much. To me, Captain Jack Sparrow is a huge character and everyone knows him and loves him so it was OK to add him to PotC. But Eddie Murphy’s character (whose name in the movie escapes me at this moment), obviously is not in the same league with Captain Jack, nor is Eddie Murphy in the same league with Johnny Depp, therefore he does not deserve to have his likeness added to a Disney ride. Just my opinion, flame me if you wish.
Anyway, after Haunted Mansion, we went back to Fantasyland looking, once again for Robin Hood but once again he was nowhere to be found. We stopped in at Pinocchio’s Village Haus for lunch and after eating, walked by the Teacups one more time to look for Robin Hood. He still was not around but we did get a couple of good pictures of Alice & the Mad Hatter.
Lumar says he’s sorry that we can’t find Robin Hood and offers to get me ice cream from Mrs. Potts Cupboard to cheer me up. Yeah, that works! Yummy vanilla ice cream with caramel and hot fudge! Did I mention that I was supposed to be “dieting?” Between this ice cream and the 800 Nestle Tollhouse Ice Cream Sandwiches I ate this week, I think I can safely say that anything I walked off was back on, plus some. But it was good so I didn’t cry about it for long. After ice cream we went on Winnie-the-Pooh and Snow White, then I forced Lumar to go on the Carousel with me. He will tell you “it was alright” but I know that secretly he loved it.
After the Carousel we went back to Adventureland and there was only a 15 minute wait for Pirates so we got in line and went on. There was some guy sitting right in front of me who kept taking pictures with the flash on and I was SOO angry that I was seriously considering sneezing and “accidentally” knocking his camera overboard. My absolute biggest pet peeve when traveling to WDW is people who think the rules do no apply to them. I was so upset about this and I complained to a CM at the end of the ride but of course she didn’t do anything about it. The ride was already over and the guy was long gone. Even if he was still hanging around what was she going to do? Take his camera away? That wouldn’t solve the problem anyway but I was hoping maybe for her to bring us to the front of the line for another ride, but it didn’t happen.
By the time we got off of Pirates it was 7:00pm so we stopped at Aloha Isle on our way back to Main Street (the CM thought we ordered two Dole Whips but we had only ordered 1, so she gave me mine for free! Happy Birthday to ME!) Since it was really cold out and we were dragging our feet because we were so tired, we planned to stay only for SpectroMagic since they didn’t have it when we were there on Monday, and we had watched Wishes on Monday. Plus I still had like ALL of our packing to do. We found a great spot right in front of the Partners Statue but Lumar left to go to the bathroom. While he was gone, a family of 6 came and sat down right next to me. I told the mother that there was someone sitting there and she said “OK” but didn’t move. One of the kids, a little girl around 12, was sitting right in Lumar’s spot and she kept kicking me, shoving me, poking me, etc. So finally I moved her leg out of my personal space with my foot and she must have said something to the mom in whatever language it was they were speaking because at that point they got up and left. And thankfully so because Lumar came back from the bathroom like 30 seconds later. I asked him why he was gone so long and he said “well the bathroom is WAY over there!” and pointed towards Adventureland. “Where did you go?” I asked him. “Over by Peco’s Bills!” He responded, sounding annoyed that I didn’t know exactly where he was talking about. “Uh, there’s a bathroom right next to Casey’s….” I reminded him. Apparently he had totally forgotten about that one. We sat there talking about our week and what a great trip it had been and about 10 minutes before start time, Lumar has to go to the bathroom again. I reminded him about the bathroom next to Casey’s again, just to make sure he didn’t forget, and again while he was gone another family tried to take his spot. At least they moved when I told them someone was sitting there. Lumar came back and the show started shortly after. I really like the music to Spectro and I made a mental note to download it from the “Anyone Want to Download some Park Audio?” thread when I got back.
After Spectro was over we stopped at Exposition Hall to buy our Photopass CD (SO WORTH IT!! $99 and we had like 27 pictures on there! To print them all out individually would have cost well over $200, plus with the CD I knew I could print as many copies as I wanted; In addition to the fact that I didn’t have to worry about pictures getting ruined on the trip home. We will definitely be doing this again!
As we headed out of the park for the last time, I, of course, started to cry as I always do. This was the worst part of the trip but we know it has to happen. We arrived back at the ASMo by 9:30pm and I start packing like a mad woman. I was so tired, all I wanted to do was collapse in bed but I would rather stay up late and get things done than wake up earlier to do it in the morning. I know that it all works out to the same amount of sleep but waking up early is much harder to do than going to bed late. I got just about everything packed but there was some stuff that would not fit in our luggage. I had both suitcases packed as tightly as I could get them, my pocketbook was full to the top, and my backpack was bursting at the seams. Why didn’t I bring an extra suitcase with us?? I left out the stuff that wouldn’t fit and knew that I would have to stop in a Donald’s Double Feature in the morning to buy another bag for Lumar to bring on board as his carryon.
Finally I was climbing into bed at 12:15am. DME was coming to get us at 7:45am so I had the alarm set for 6:30 so we could shower, go buy a bag, pack the rest of our stuff, and check out before the bus got there. Tomorrow was going to be a long day….
