Yup, going to post which ones we lay out and report on how long it takes them to find them and progress on figuring out the mystery of them :thumbsup2

Happy Halloween Everyone!!!!!!!!!

Tomorrow kicks off our Harry Potter clues for the DDs to find :cool1:

We started with this contact sheet of misc. HP pics (I printed it out, scanned it back in, and used PhotoShop to replace the file names with a Harry Potter-ish font for the numbers):

HP-DaysSmall.jpg

My second step was to use Publisher to create what would be the back side showing the date we fly out:

Nov29thSmall.jpg

Both pics were selected and sent to the printer as full size photos so they printed 2-sided. I used a paper cutter to create the individual clues:

CluesCutSmall.jpg

We have a total of 35 clues so we figure we'll lay out 2 per day most days. We'll make sure we keep the numbering random enough so they can't piece it together right away. But our goal will be that they will be able to solve it by one week out from our travel day.

Here are tomorrow's clues. They were selected because one has the characters towards the beginning and the other is just plain mysterious:

I'll keep you all updated as to when they find each clue and when they figure out that there is more to it than just pictures. We'll of course play dumb when they start asking questions :confused3 :lmao: :rotfl2:

Hey Patricia!

Well the move is thankfully done. I took Thursday afternoon off and did some packing. DW and I both took off Friday and she took MiL shopping along with DD1 in Medford, the next town over while I did the moving. Had a friend come over with a trailer and the two of us knocked out the big/heavy stuff. We had everthing done except the bed and a few bits and pieces.

We ended up having her stay one more night and on Saturday DW and I loaded up the last load including the bed and got everything over there and set up the whole room. We had it done in time to bring MiL over for dinner, which she ate with the girls and I.

Today the girls went shopping and picked up a few misc. items for MiL's room. I'm staying home and relaxing a bit. There may have also been a surprise in there for the girls this morning :thumbsup2

It's time for clues! How exciting! I can't wait to hear how it goes.

Rolling on with the update now! :yay: :woohoo: :yay:

Happy 'fall back' day everyone - hope y'all enjoyed the extra hour of sleep this morning :thumbsup2

This morning was our first without our mother-in-law living in our house. It has been stressful for all involved. The girls have been kind of down over the whole thing so DW and I talked about the clues last night before we went to bed. We decided to go a different way with things today.

We let the girls sleep in and when they got up they came out to the living room where I was watching Top Gear, a show we enjoy watching together. DW had been in the bedroom and while we were relaxing she set things up.

She came out to the living room and told the girls that it looked like one of their animals had gotten into something and made a mess in the hallway and that they'd better come clean it up. When they came to the hallway the clues were spread all up and down it. Some were picture side up and others were face down.

The girls quickly brought them together and started to figure out parts of the pattern. It was a bit too complex so we finally relented and told them the number sequence. They taped them togther in stips of 5 and then flipped them over, arranging to discover the date.

Once that was done DW asked if they knew what this meant. DD2 was totally clueless but DD1 asked if it was a new Harry Potter game or "Harry Potter Land". I said "do you mean 'The Wizarding World of Harry Potter'?" She said yes.

Here's where it gets a bit funny, although DD2 has been approached by two of her teachers about an upcoming vacation she still doesn't get it. And DD1 thinks we're just referring to next year. I go to our bedroom and pull out the packet and give it to them. It is only when they see the departure date that it sinks in.

They got pretty giggly and happy while they looked thru everything and I explained some of the details. We brought up the map of POP Century and let them choose which area we were going to stay at. They chose 50s, which works great for DW and I as we stayed there last time.

And since the jig was up with the Harry Potter clues, I was able to hang up this. It has a picture of the castle at Christmas and Hogwarts during the grand opening:

The girls will get to take turns pulling off LGMHs, one per day. The number amount under each head is worth an equivalent dollar amout that they will have for extra mad money in the parks

As you can see there are only 23 days to go until we roll over to Medford and the Super 8 for our overnight stay before we fly out. Whoohoo! :yay: :dance3: :yay:

Glad you mil got moved in and everything went smoothly

Good idea to let the girls in now on secret, sure they needed some cheering up

That;s funny it took a little bit to click that the trip was this year

Hi Mike
it is really nice to see you got your DME stuff  and i love the way you did the game with the kids that was cool .

very clever i liked it.

another idea i saw about the money for trip spending is to use the days that you tear off as dollar amounts...
so like a 100 day count down

100 days equals 1.00
99 days equals .99

and so forth. works out to right about 50 bucks...or if my math is correct $50.50

:thumbsup2

Thank you Kelly :goodvibes

Yes, I think it was a good thing - they really needed some good news after all of this. And yes, it was funny that they didn't get the hints and it took a printed itinerary from AAA for it to really sink in :rotfl:

Hiya! Yes, good to have the ME stuff in hand. Just need to wait to be a week out to get our room set at POP.

Having the girls do the clues and be in on the magic was good for them and for DW and I too. We needed that little pick-me-up ourselves.

Thank you Dan! And nice idea with the money.

It is actually kind of funny with the countdown board we are using since I just re-used the one we had for our DLR trip in 2009. In that case there were three "kids" (DD1, DD2, & our nephew) and so I really don't know how much each girl will technically end up with. We're planning on $50 per kid so it fits pretty good with your forumula :thumbsup2

I made some minor updates to my itinerary today. Just modified our AK/MK (MVMCP) day so that we leave AK around 4pm, take DT to the Grand Floridian to look at their decorations, then take the boat to MK and eat dinner at Pecos Bill's.

Also added breakfast at Hollywood & Vine for our first full day - landed an 8:05 reservation so we can enter DHS early :cool1:

And made some preliminary reservations on the Mommy/Daughter & Daddy/Daughter day on Dec 6th. I'm assuming the girls will want the same parents/parks so made dinner reses for DW and DD1 at Teppan Edo (they LOVE Japanese food) and lunch for DD2 and I at 50s Prime Time.

We'll talk to the girls and make sure that is the way they want to go. I can always cancel if it doesn't pan out that way :thumbsup2

I'm off to call the Super8 in Medford to make our reservation for the night before our flight and arrange the shuttle. Just over 3 weeks to to - this trip is getting pretty real folks!!!!

you know that MGM now opens early every morning like 15 minutes before the scheduled time to cut down on the TSM killer mob scene at rob drop?

Hurray...:woohoo:... I'm so glad you were able to set up your countdown calendar!!!

(IT would make a difference to how quickly the girls picked up the surprise if teachers were coming up asking them about their trip...:lmao:)

I think this trip will be great for your family for lots of different reasons... I'm really happy for you guys and keeping my fingers crossed that MIL really settles in well and likes her new place...:thumbsup2

No, I wasn't aware of that - so much for my cunning plan :( Still may get a small head start on the masses if we eat fast though. We're really not interested in the characters for that one. The girls are a bit old for Playhouse Disney ;)

Yes, I'm liking that the girls get to take down those LGMHs! And you're right - it was only a matter of time as another teacher talked to DD1 yesterday :lmao:

It will be a great trip, we all really need it. And hopefully we'll be past the 'settling in' stage for MiL. Right now at least one of us goes over every day and there's always something else that needs a little tweaking.

We still have to remind her that we're going. I'm sure she's completely forgotten with everything that has been going on.

So glad everything is coming together for your trip...we will be there from Nov 25-Dec 4...

We are going to go to MVMCPARTY two times and have ressies for Crystal Palace, 50's Primetime Cafe, CRT, Hoop-de-doo Revue, Tonys Town Square and another one for Crystal Palace (Winnie the Pooh is my favorite thing in the world)!!

We plan n trying to eat at Be Our Guest Restaurant for a QS lunch because I tried for hours o get dinner ressies and they are all booked up! I keep trying though because there is always room for some Disney magic ;)

I hope you have a fantastic trip...only 17 days till the magic!!! Woohoo!!!

Hey Mike,

I'm bumping you up and

Thinking of your family and hoping that all is well with your MIL and that your plans are moving forward...

2 Weeks...:wizard:

2 weeks :cool1:

Are the kids bouncing off the walls yet?:yay::yay:

How is your MIL adjusting?
