Hey there everyone,
I have a few questions about an attraction that is either dead and gone, or well hidden. See my obsession only started about 5-6 years ago in high school, i had never been to WDW prior to the late 90's. My fiance was showing me some things from her trip in 1995, and she had gotten a "pictoral soveiner(sp) book" from 1993. It showed an area called "Discovery Island", now I'm aware that many epcot pavillions are closed/changed names etc, the skyway isnt there anymore (awww...) etc but i have never once even heard of Discovery Island. I was wondering can someone tell me some things about it, did it become part of the AK park somehow? I don't know it just looked like it was a wonderful place that disney should not have closed.

Thanks in advance, I know ALOT of you will tell me all you know.

Chris

It was a zoological area and island in Bay Lake with animals on it. They closed it when AK opened.

I fondly remember Discovery Island, 'cause I used to go there all the time. :) It wasn't part of any park - it was this island that you had to take a boat from Ft. Wilderness to go there. It was basically a little nature walk that had many kinds of animals, even flamingos! I think it was closed because they were adding Animal Kingdom. Thank you,

I now realize that i actually grounded a mouse boat on/near this island if my memory serves me right. Its the BIG island :flower:

hehe...
