Thought I'd link this here, as I know some people are only on the CB -

There is a marathon of How Disney Built America on the History Channel right now!! (Sunday, 8/18, 6:00pm - 4:00am)

➡️ Click on this thread for more info.

Haven't seen it. The title about Disney 'building America' is odd. Really claiming that?

I only watched the first two last night (well, one and half, as I didn't come in right at the beginning) and taped the rest, but the impression I got about the title was:

a) Disney would innovate something, and then other people would follow suit, so he was "building" the things we know now (full-length animated films, for instance)

and

b) that the title is part of recurring set of similar short series, so they kept the word in place even if it was a bit of a stretch

Thanks for the heads up! Disney history is fascinating and it adds a layer of interest to going to the parks.

I agree something along the lines of 'Influenced America' would have been a more appropriate title. Watched a bit of a couple of the shows, rather slow moving and seemed like they stretched out the storyline to fill up more hours. Also seemed a bit one-sided to me as Walt was always right and everyone else wrong. Business is rarely that simple. With any type of biographical program, curious to see who was behind it, since clearly this one tried to make Walt look at good as possible. Whether or not that was reality, I have no idea.

Sadly, with all of our streaming services and I don't have access to watch it! Our "cable" provider doesn't have History Channel. I'm guessing it could...at some point...be moved over to Hulu and/or D+. I tried through Hulu, but whatever I'm subscribed to doesn't cover it. Oh well.

As for them using the term "building," without seeing the series, I'm sure they're using the same logic that they use for programming regarding most of the great innovators. With Disney's appeal factor and overwhelming success, there is no question that Disney's methods and models were borrowed by countless other industries and companies. Was it a literal building of America...no, but the world many of us know today probably has a lot of foundational elements wrapped into the Disney methods. Granted it helps that they've used this kind of titling for other series, like @focusondisney noted. So, it doesn't seem out there when it's applied to other programming concerning the foundational industries and aspects in this country. I wish I could recall the class, but I know for certain one of our company's corporate training series tapped into Disney methodology...even spent some time discussing the firm's success and why we were using some of their approach as well.

History has their own streaming app - you may be able to watch it via that (you may need to sign in with a cable or satellite provider to see it, though).
