disney grand california sale start 1-25-09 for founding members

Can we please clarify...

APs are being offered for more than 220 points at VGC???

And could you use those otherwise pretty worthless developer points for a cruise? That would be awesome. How else could we use up all those points in less than 9 months. SIGH.

Hi! New to these (or any) boards. I was wondering if someone could explain what a "founding member" is? I have seen the term used a lot on this thread. I am thinking of purchasing at VCG, but have not received a letter or any other info. from my guide. (I left a message, still waiting to hear back). We purchased last January on a Disney Cruise, and our home resort is SSR...still newbies (kinda).

I gave a credit card number to my guide and she is setting up the paperwork for the opening of sales, but I'm curious have any of you received a point chart from your guides. Mine read me some points (she claimed her copy wasn't clear enough to fax) and they matched what was on DVCnews and what was up briefly on the member website. I'm just curious if anyone has one they can hold in their hands.

Yep,
We did a AKV add on last week and in my paperwork was the point chart for GCV's

Spoke with my guide last night and she mentioned that all the incentives aren't in stone until Sunday. Since were leaving next week she will be calling me first thing in the morning on Sunday and get our contract rolling.

With the DP's do you have to book by 10/3 or use the points by then? I would love to go around mid October to DL but not sure if it will work or not using the DP's

Thanks Chris--my guide did confirm the minimum was 100 points.
May I ask for just one further clarification? The minimum of 100 that your guide mentioned, was that a true buy-in minimum or a minimum for receiving the incentive of the developer points and the $5 per point incentive? The reason I'm asking is I, too, spoke with my guide yesterday and he thought they might offer a 50-point bottom but you would need buy a minimum of 100 for the incentives that have been discussed here. (I'm only stating what our guide said and he stated that he "thought" that might be the case.)

We're going to be getting our 100 point add-on (and a few additional if we feel the need) contract on Wednesday as we're running around this weekend and our guide is off on Monday and Tuesday. We're both looking forward to more wonderful stays at the DLR!!

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a done deal!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I know I already sort of celebrated yesterday. But I just talked to my guide and we're set! I am sooooooooooooooooo excited. I don't feel badly celebrating even in light of the 2010 point chart issue. I have been waiting for this for too darn long not to savor this moment. First I had to convince my very frugal and level headed DH. He doesn't do anything wild and crazy like this. Then he surprised me for our Anniversary in Sept. We went to GCH and to Club 33 and bought into AKV. I just wuv that guy. :lovestruc Then we had to scrimp together more money for VGC in this horrid investment climate. I told him I don't need a new car or nice jewelry ever again!

Anyhoo. Here we are - I am opening the wine tonight. And my mom, sister, two DD's and I are going to GCH in Feb to celebrate some more. princess: princess: princess: princess: princess:

Life is sooooooo good. God is so good!

Major, MAJOR hugs to those who are shut out by the 100 point minimum. I was almost shut out too and I so feel your pain. :grouphug:

Fifty years of trips to Disney for my family, friends, future grandkids, etc! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Folks who purchased WDW DVC resort membership from the DL DVC office were given a special contract addendum that gave them a 60 day pre-purchase window to buy up to 160 VGC pts (that ceiling has now allegedly been upped to 500 pts). Those who purchase during that 60 day pre-purchase window become 'Founding Members' and are given a $100 gift (I believe it's going to be framed artwork of the resort).
DVC has had Founding Member programs for other resorts (AKV, BLT) but it was always the 1st X # of members to purchase. It has never been based on other criteria like where you bought your existing membership. This is unique because many West Coast members purchased WDW DVC with the understanding that a DLR DVC would be built. VGC is also unique in that it is the smallest DVC to date, only 48 units. Expectation is that it will sell out prior to making it to a public offering.

Congrats Bethy!! :cool1: :cool1:
I plan to purchase next week but won't be celebrating until May when we have our next trip to DLR and actually get to tour the VGC model!! :hourglass The months are going to crawl by! Maybe my husband and I will have to make a 1 or 2 night trip...I have a SW companion pass because he flys so much and we will have some DP's to burn...what do you think, should we head down in Feb too?:scratchin

Note: I got an error message when I tried to submit this because there were too many images in the text. That's one excited message!!

Hee, you are asking the WRONG person! Of COURSE you should go down in Feb. The fireworks are showing President's day weekend even, but we decided to go the weekend before to avoid the crowds. However Presidents' weekend is also Valentines weekend . . . You and your DH need to use those DP's on a romantic getaway!

Ok--just talked to my guide and here is the clarification.

Buying 220 or more VGC points AT DISNEYLAND will give you, in addition to matching developer points which have to be used by October 3, 2009, TWO ANNUAL PASSES. The additional fact there is that you have to go to Disneyland to get the passes and sign your paperwork there in the Disneyland DVC office. So I'm going to have to physically go into the office (not a huge deal for me since I live so close).

My understanding is that the Developer points can be used for FOUR purposes:

prior to October 3, 2009 stay at SSR;

at the three Disneyland hotels;

deposit in RCI for an exchange up to the next two years (not sure what date has to be deposited by, but presumably have to deposit by Oct. 3); or

use for a DCL cruise. (Again--not sure if just have to "book" by October 3 or actually go by October 3. Will be asking the last two questions tomorrow).

Hope that clears things up somewhat. I will be talking to my guide tomorrow so if you have more questions let me know and I'll try to get them answered.

(and I'm feeling you on the less than 9 months on the DP's--would really like to use those for the trip I already have planned to SSR the last week of October, but oh well--you win some you lose some).

UM . . . does that mean you can't use them at DLR??? I told my guide we were going in Feb and I'm not sure I clarified to DLR. Eek! Guess I'd better give her a call!

Oh man! I knew I forgot something--I'll go back and edit my post. Sorry to give you a heart attack!

No problem! The two glasses of wine I've had softened the temporary blow!

I just thought: Don't worry, be happy! :drinking1

I'm really tempted to open a bottle of Banfi Rosa Regale, but just recently broke up with my DBF and don't think I have the hand strength to do it (had to have someone else open it on Christmas). Of course, there's always regular wine--have NO problemo opening that!

Thanks so much for the clarification! WOW, you have to drive up there to get 2 APs?? UGH. I think I will have to go on Sunday then and just do it. What a silly thing to require. I will be talking with my guide Sunday too (she is off today and tomorrow). Great to hear about the cruise line. If you have to finish travel by Oct, that would be really really silly. But if you can book by Oct, it would be a fantastic way to use those points!

Appreciate your post! Keep the info coming.

We are on the fence about 300 or 400 points. I need to find that darn point chart.

Cheryl,
I'd like to know about the RCI deposit and DCL use of DP.
Thanks, Angela

Yes, the RCI deposit is a mystery to me too, just like the cruises. Sooo, you can deposit your bonus freebie points into RCI and then exchange for 2 more years, right. You don't have to complete travel by Oct 09? I guess it's the same question as the cruise. Do we book by Oct 09 or travel by Oct 09. Rod

On another note, I have found the GCV point chart and WOW, have you guys looked at it. In peak season, it is almost 40 points PER NIGHT in a 1BR. Soooo, a 100 point contract $10,000+ will get you a total of 2-3 nights a year in a 1BR. Now that seems really, really expensive to me.

hmmm throw in the mickey penthouse!!! i'm still on the fence and that may send me over the edge..:cool1:

Hey can't blame me for trying last time i said throw in some ap's then all the sudden someone said ap's are being offered. lol:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:
