disney grand california sale start 1-25-09 for founding members

I just talked to my Guide because I have a June UY (which is what I will be getting for GCV too--) he explained that April will be the last year to be "dropped in" as he put it--so UYs from June on will get points allotted in 09 and January -April UYs won't get their first set of points until next year (10). Presumably then January-April UYs 50 years won't start running until then and will be the last to expire.

Thanks! We are so excited. Our guide said our bonus points will hit our account tonight or tomorrow! :cheer2:

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what they are doing with people who own use years in the Spring? We have Sept UY with AKV so we just got Sept UY with GCV too. That works out perfect since booking is supposed to start around March for a planned opening of November 2009. But what if you have a UY of March or APril? DO you have ot wait till 2010 to get points??

Katherine

We have a Feb UY and won't get the points until 2010. I'm thinking about changing our UY in order to get points for this year so we can go in mid October for Halloween without borrowing our points.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for posting the chart--I didn't check every number, but all of the weekly totals are the same as what was "mistakenly" posted earlier in the week! So I'm glad it hasn't changed! :thumbsup2

Well, I think it depends on how many points you are buying. To have a different UY you would have to buy a minimum of 160 points--but then you could buy a June-December UY and get points earlier (presumably you would want June so you would have them in time to book).

Will it be open in Oct this year? I thought it wasn't opening until Nov/Dec '09? Also, if you start a new UY you can't combine your points from your other contract at 7mo without transfering. They will be considered separate contracts. Not sure if that will be a big deal, but I've heard it can add complexity...

hmm, kerickson you may be right. However, presumably she would be getting developer points which could be used at one of the hotels prior to the Nov-Dec opening. But they have to be used by October 3rd--so that wouldn't help either!

No GCV won't be open by October but we would use our points to stay at GCH instead.

You won't be able to go in October unless there is a miracle. They did say they are ahead in the construction BUT it is still anticipated to open in November. October seems to be a "lull" month where you can't use your DP or your VGC points yet. Can you go in November instead?

Oh NO. I have a March use year and was going in January 2010 and July 2010. I was hoping for 2009 and 2010 points. I bought at the Contempory and will be getting 2009 points.

You will probably get 2009 points and have to start paying MFs when it opens in November. Then you would just bank them and use them in 2010 if you want.

I have a Feb UY, and will be buying into GCV. I was hoping for the first stay at GCV for Dec 09. Does my Feb UY mean I won't be able to reserve this year for GCV, and have to wait until next year? Or will I be able to borrow from 2010 for 2009, since I'll be paying MFs starting Dec. 09? I'm waiting for my guide to call me back, but I know it will be a while since they're inundated with calls/work today. Thought I'd ask the experts on this forum! TIA!

According to my guide, the first UY for VGC will be JUNE. They will then add on as the year progresses with April not getting points until April 2010. But I would think that you would be able to borrow from 2010 (which won't help disnfile if he/she was needing points from both 2009 and 2010).

My first VGC points will come in Dec 2009. I specifically asked my guide that if I wanted to try and book a Nov 2009 stay (which I don't) could I borrow the points to do it from that deposit. So I'm sure you could do the same for Feb.

Personally if I had a UY earlier than June I'd push back pretty hard on trying to get 2009 points. I've seen that as a somewhat negotiable issue in the past. But if VGC is truly in major demand then they might not budge. Or they might budge later if sales aren't going so hot . . .

The other downside to getting a contract for a new UY would be that you'd have to pay closing costs. Can't remember how significant those are.

Just got off the phone with my guide about changing my UY and here is the info that I got from her.

No one will be able to use there GCV points until the resort opens, once when it opens you can use your 2009 points and/or borrow your 2010 points if needed.

You can choose your UY but most people keep it the same with all there other contracts.

I will be keeping my Feb UY, as if I choose Aug or a later month (for the 2009 points) and the booking window opens this March (estimate) I would not be able to book early enough as I won't have those points deposited yet. If I keep my Feb UY the 2010 points will be in my account next month to book at GCV when they open booking for Nov/Dec. So for me it's alright not to get the 2009 points as I would rather have points in my account to book a stay this year at GCV for the Holiday's.

Hope that makes sense!!
Just happy to own a part of GCV's!

Tierre, the way I interpret that is that you WILL get Feb 2009 points deposited next month? Also, if you had an Aug 2010 UY couldn't you borrow the points to use to stay in Dec 2009? I'm not clear on why you couldn't do that . . .

I'm just checking b/c I'm just making sure I'm making the right decision myself. Though Dec works for us well b/c we always travel in April but our second most likely time is Dec. Hmmmm . . . I can't believe how complicated this stuff can be!

I don't think that you can change your use year for an add on. I have a March UY and would like to get a different month forR gcv. I m only buying 100 POINTS.

You most certainly (well, certainly as long as they let you borrow which you seem to have covered) would be able to book with an Aug UY. Once you purchase a contract you already have the points for the next 50 years. The only thing that then matters is the date that you wish to make your reservation. All UY's would be able to borrow from 2010 and make a ressie for Dec. 2009. The only problem would be with a Nov 09 ressie and a Dec UY that wished to borrow from 2010 - that could not be done since they would still technically be in their '08 UY.
If you really want 09 points and an Aug UY works otherwise in planning then you might want to reconsider keeping the Feb.

I'm guessing they will require a purchase of 160 pts if you wish to change UY's.

It's hard to explain typing it out.

No I will NOT get 2009 points for my Feb UY I will get 2010 points, but once when the booking opens I can borrow my 2010 Feb UY points to book since it's past my UY.

Lets say I had a AUG UY and getting 2009 points and booking opens in March You will not be able to use your 2009 points as you have to wait for your UY Month to come up before you can book. So I wouldn't be able to book until AUG and if I want to go around the Holidays this year all the rooms may be taken by then since bookings may open in March. And we all know that the resort will be full after it opens in NOV/DEC months.

Did that make better sense? This is the way my guide explained it to me

So for me and wanting to go around the Holidays this year it's best to keep my FEB UY in order to book by March and borrow my 2010 points.

Just to state again b/c I really don't want you to learn later that you could have switched and gotten another year of points - what you are stateing for booking is incorrect. Now if I can figure out better how to explain for you.......

August UY points 2009 are valid for bookings from Aug 1 2009 to July 31st 2010. That means they can be used for a reservation anytime between those dates.

Now - the 11 month booking window only means that you can book up to a maxiumum of 11 months ahead of your stay. GCV at opening will be an aberation b/c it will also be for dates less than 11 months but it includes both Nov and Dec of 2009. Since the August UY points will be valid then you may book with them.

Depositing is a hard thing to understand and the best I can explain is that you already have your points for the next 50 years - DVC does not deposit anything. So all you have to worry about is your booking window and if you have any available points left to use. There is also no correlation between your UY and when you can call to book - only the above criteria affects booking.
