DH and I were thinking of purchasing a Disney giftcard online before our trip to use for spending money. It would be a like a credit card, but with a set amount so we wouldn't go overboard :-)

Does anyone know if there are any locations you can not use a Disney giftcard in WDW? We would want to use it to buy souveniers and the ocassional adult beverage

Thanks! :yay:

it should be accepted anywhere that has the capability of accepting credit cards, room charging and DDP. there might be some spots at DTD that are questionable, but most places will accept it.

If I remember right when they first came out I thought someone said they could not be used at that time to pay off your room charges (when you charge items back to your room from the parks on your room card). Is this still the case or was it ever? I hope you can use them now to do that.

there were initial issues with the new universal card and the resorts, but as far as i know, they're long resolved

I just got off the phone with a castmember who said I could. That's what I plan on doing as well.

This is an excellent idea! I got a gift card from my former co-workers when I left my previous job. Using it for adult beverages will be fun! :rotfl2: Thanks for the idea.

Disney cannot reissue a new gift card if yours gets lost or stolen unless you have the card number AND the original receipt for the card. So, if you're buying those cards for your own use, make sure that you keep a copy of the card number, the phone number to call and the receipt in a safe place (separate from where you keep the card).

And if you lose a card and someone finds it and uses it before you report it missing, you're out of luck. Unlike with a credit card, Disney will not replace the missing funds, only what remains on the card at the time that the account is frozen.

So, while a gift card is a good idea in some ways, it is not the safest way to carry your vacation cash.

In december my dd's grandfather gave them disney gift cards for our trip and they had not been activated. It could have been really bad if we hadn't had the reciepts.
