My niece is going to be turning 8 in June, and her family will be joining us at Disney in December. DH and I are going to Disney in a few weeks and I wanted to buy her something there that she can use at Disney when they come. It will be her first trip, and I have no idea what an 8 year old girl would be into at Disney.

Any parents of 8 year old girls out there care to help me out?

A set of pink ears with her name sewn in would be nice. Also maybe a t shirt with the princesses or Minnie. You might also want to look at maybe getting her a nice autograph book.

My DD just turned 9 in March. There are so many things she would like from DW. Mine still loves stuffed animals and they are plentiful there. They have some really cool pens that curve up into the shape of Mickey, Minnie, etc. T-shirt, autograph book, maybe even a photo album. I want to get the huge Mickey hand when we are there and I will give it to DD, but really I want it. :rotfl: 8 is an in between age and it might depend on the child. The fairies seem to be a good choice as well. DD really likes them!! Don't know if that helped at all...but have fun shopping! :yay:

Edit- Ok, I see you want something for when she's there in Dec. Mickey ears, t-shirt, autograph book...pretty much what pp said. Not sure how cool it will be in Dec. but maybe you can find a light jacket on clearance. Crocs...jibbits to go in the crocs. I'm sure once you get there, you'll have no trouble picking some stuff out. :)

Thanks that does help. We plan on giving all the kids that are coming Mickey ears with their names on them at our first nights dinner. But I think an autograph book and pen or a photo album would be good. I like the fairy ideas as well.

I was not sure if 8 year olds are stll into autographs or not. My son is 6 and scared to even look at them so he is not a god reference point.;)

My dd7 (8 in Aug) is very into autographs, so I think an autograph book and pen would be great. We live on Long Island & I have been told by many people that kids here "grow up" faster than kids in other areas, so having said that, I think the ears are a good keepsake, but my dd wouldn't be caught dead wearing them. She also will not wear anything princesses or girly fairies. She will wear the sassy tink style stuff (but only in WDW not at home). Same for Minnie, it would depend on the style of the clothing.

She really liked collecting pressed pennies on our last trip so maybe you can give her a pressed penny book (they sell them in all the gift shops) and you can fill a mini m&m tube with layers of 2 quarters and a penny(that is what it costs to press one).

She also liked doing pin trading with the cast members, so you can get a lanyard and start her off with a few pins. It was fun for her to try to find unique pins and talk to all of the different cast members.

What about a lanyard and a cutie fairy or princess pin? They also have the charm bracelets (you get to chose the chrams) that both of my girls love. You could get her one of those or even a charm necklace.

I'd recommend a pressed penny book with a supply of pennies and quarters to fill it. My niece turns eight in July and will be joining us at WDW in December, too. She's been several times with us, and she really liked the pennies.

She also enjoyed pin trading (started collecting Stitch pins), so a starter set might be nice.

I make the kids personalized photo books to use as autograph books. You may not be able to do that if she hasn't been to WDW yet, but the DISign Board here has some awesome autograph cards that are much cooler (IMO) than the plain ones from the parks. As recent as last fall, my niece was still really into autographs and characters (as is DS4).

I recommend either a Disney fleece (since it is December), or like PP said, the Disney charm bracelets. They're all over the place and the charms are only $4 or so. You can get the princesses, park symbols (i.e. Tree of Life, Castle, etc.)-- it'll definitely be something she'll keep for awhile. I bought a Belle charm our last trip and attached it to a good bracelet that I already owned-- the charms look really nice and not cheap.

I assume you want to get her something tangible. I like the idea of getting her started on some type of collection that she can continue when she's there (pennies, pins, charms). You could also get her a Disney gift card so she can buy whatever SHE wants. Just another thought/option.

Mine would be into jewelry. They're frilly girls.

There is a nice silver shop in the Italy area at Epcot. I bought a few inexpensive items last time. You could maybe let her pick something out.

Or if you don't mind getting it before hand...

My 7 1/2 year old keeps eyeing these gold & cz mickey head earrings at Kohl's. They're $40 something, but Walmart has them for $25. Kohl's also has some silver ones for under $20

They have some princess crown ones that have a pink cz for $17

Tons of watches.

A Disney sweatshirt (find out what characters she likes) it gets cool at night in Dec. I also second the pin lanyard.

My DD is 7 1/2 and is really into the pressed pennies now. On the Creative Disigns forum you can have a "label" for the tall M&M tube personalized with their name and favorite character. There is also a "label" for the oblong mentos gum container that will hold the pressed pennies. It was so simple to do. I just purchased clean contact paper from the Dollar Tree to adhere the design to the tubes. We have gotten away from the autograph books and are using a photo mat this year. YOu could have a pillow case customized from the disign forum and use that for autographs??? My DD also liked the "passports" they sell at Epcot for around $10. She loved speaking with the CM's in the different countries and having her book signed and stamped. Hope this helps.
