Can I buy a Disney gift card at check-in and use it at the F&W booths? I thought I read somewhere that sometimes their computers are down, and they don't have the ability to take anything other than cash at the food booths.

Very good question!

And, If you get the special F&W gift cards at the welcome center can you use it in any restaurant on property or just Epcot or just booths?

I'm trying to figure out my cash/credit card/room key plan and I'm a little confused. :confused3

What does everyone do to pay for things during the F&W?

i've never used the gift cards, but we have used cash, credit cards, KTTW cards, and DDP snack credits with no problems at the kiosks. as i recall, one time in 2006 they had some sort of computer problem with the hand held computers while we were there, but it didn't really affect us, even when we were using our DDP credits...

Last year at the F&W Fest we used Disney Gift Cards. We purchased them at home before we left.(Disney Store) It worked great alot easier than cash. We did not have any problem with any kiosk not being able to accept them.

I've been using gift cards throughout the parks for years. The larger gift shops sell them. It is the best way to make small purchases - from the food and wine festival booths to dole whips. No more pockets full of change and dirty hands.

I usually add $100 when the balance gets low. The cashier and receipt will tell you how much is left on the card. They make it really easy to track how much you spend on food.

There are rare occassions when they are not accepted - like the gelato stand in Italy or when they are having power/register issues.

I'm glad to see you guys haven't had a problem using the gift cards @ F&WF, as well as other locations. I plan to get a card for my DS & his girlfriend to buy snacks, when we aren't together.

We use a credit card/room key depending on where we are staying, but we do keep cash with us as well, as the credit machines do go down and when they do the only people they can serve are those paying with cash.

I have a gift card that someone gave me, but I will not be using it for the food booths. In my experience, the card machines have broken down so much that I don't want to take that chance. I use strictly cash.

Fantastic-thanks! So I can get a gift card at a gift shop, using a set amount from VISA, then use that gift card up for spending during the week. However, I will carry a little cash, just in case.

I most definitely recommend carrying some cash. I've always found at least one food and wine kiosk that had something wonky going on with the card reader.
