Disney for son's third birthday

Hello, I am new here

We go to Disney at least once a year and always stay on property. In January we will be staying off property for the first time as my parents are renting a house nearby. We are going to be buying tickets to use Jan 8-14 and my son turns 3 on the 10th.
I want to make sure I follow protocol and am wondering if I should be buying him a ticket to use from the 10th on. I have read about not needing to if your child turns 3 during the trip, but I am not sure if that applies only if staying on property.

Just want to be sure I am doing things right.

You do not need to purchase a ticket for him.

Once you begin a trip, any child will be considered to be the age (s)he is on the first day of the trip... for the duration of that trip.

Yes, Robo is right you won't need a park ticket for him after that day, but stand your ground if you are questioned! We were there for DS birthday, April 22-26. His birthday was April 25, our last park day (MK). We went right up to the turnstiles, just like we had every day before that and it was the first time they had even took a second glance. A man questioned DH and DH told him we were celebrating his birthday and that he was 3 today. Another lady pulled us to the side and told me we would have to go back and buy him a ticket. We were on our way to a PPO breakfast and I was not happy that we were wasting precious time and that we might have to go back and buy him a ticket. I respectfully told her that we had been here since April 22 and that when booking I was told it wouldn't be an issue bc we started our vacation when he was still 2. She debated for what seemed like an eternity and then let us on through. I kinda wonder if we hadn't been holding up traffic, if she would have let us or not. Either way, it put our morning off to a bad start.

But, go and have a great time! DS loved it as did DD 5. I was so glad we took them when they were young and everything was magical! DS is tall for his age and he still tells me he can't wait to go back to Disney and ride Splash Mtn again!!
