Pardon my ignorance here, I tried searching through mountains of threads to find an answer but was completely overwhelmed by all of the information!
This is my first time to Disney World and I am going to be there for a convention so it's just me, myself and I. I am trying to figure out the best way to get to the Contemporary Resort from the airport. Is there a shuttle that runs to all of the Disney properties? Or would a taxi be better? How much would those cost approximately. Thanks in advance...
Also, any other tips about the Contemporary would be appreciated (restaurant recommendations, things to do for someone that doesn't have any children with them, marina/boat rentals, tennis/basketball/workout options).
Not a dumb question at all! I remember when I first started going to WDW and was overwhelmed with so much info. The Contemporary was my first WDW hotel. I love it because the monorail runs through it, and I love the shopping area and having dinner at Chef Mickey's or watching the fireworks from the observation area on the top floor.
As for transportation, when we were newbies, we used to take Mears. But they load up with as many people as possible and stop at multiple hotels, so it can be a long and annoying trip. Then we learned about towncars, and now we use Happy Limo. For more than two people, a towncar is actually cheaper, and you have a private vehicle taking you right to your hotel. Car rental is another option, but personally I just rely on Disney's transportation. With the monorail, boats, buses, etc., you will be fine. I have a coupon for Happy on my website, and if you are doing comparisons, there are coupons for others too. Just make sure that you choose a reliable company. You'll find lots of review here. We like Happy because we come to Orlando a lot, and they are always prompt. You can get a free grocery stop with a towncar, too.
Have a great trip!

Excellent, thanks for the information. At least I know I have options. If I opt for the towncar/limo, how long does it take approximately, to get to the Contemporary from the Orlando Airport? 30 minutes?
I do prefer the towncar service when I travel with my family, but for just one person it's a relatively pricey option. You'll pay somehwere around $65 (give or take) plus tip roundtrip for a town car (no matter how many passengers) and around $23 roundtrip per adult on Mears.
