Stops: Tortola, St. Thomas, and Castaway Cay

Captain: Daniele

Cruise Director: Darren

Entertainment Hosts: Ruth and AJ

Passengers: 3400-3600 (depending on who you asked)

Our team for dinner: Rommel, Cleison and Tony (Head Server) (we had late seating), there were some noticeable empty tables. Our rotation was AERAERA

Stateroom: Deck 8 aft. Yes, we did feel the vibrations from the ship.

Movies: Dr. Strange (in the big and little theater), Luca, Encanto, Eternals, Rise, Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, Lightyear (in the big and little theater), Sneakerella. I thought there could have been better offerings. I also thought it was bad to promote a “special” viewing in the theater of the Disney + only movies. “You can only see it on the big screen here, folks.”

Entertainment: Taylor Mason (ventriloquist), Eric Jones (magician) and Moonshot Acapella

Stage Shows: Aladdin, Frozen and Disney’s Believe (I think so).

Stateroom gift: The blue shoulder sling bag and the blue round luggage tag.

This was our 10th cruise with Disney, and they keep getting better. It was only our 2nd time though cruising in the summer. We usually cruise in the Winter. Boy was it hot!

This cruise we sailed with family friends, and this added a new dynamic to our trip. A bigger table for dinner, more answers at trivia and the need for more beach chairs at Castaway!

Ups and Downs

Since this cruise bookended the christening of the Wish, we were parked in Terminal 10 parking lot but departed Terminal 8. This added some confusion pre and post cruise. At the end of the cruise the Wish was docked at Terminal 8 and the Fantasy docked at Terminal 10. This made for a great photo op but ugly disembarking lines.

We went to Tortola and had a great time at Cane Garden Beach. We recommended it to several families and heard back they liked it (looking at you Cincinnati). We did it on our own, no Disney excursion.

We went to St. John’s Trunk Bay instead of staying on St. Thomas. Though a little convoluted we did it on our own (taxi, shuttle boat, taxi). And though it was a beautiful day the wind was so bad it looked like a sandstorm episode of the Mummy. Stayed in the water most of the time and left earlier than we planned. I still had sand in my ears days later from the sand blasting we got. Note for those planning to go, Trunk Bay is back to charging for access, $5 a person. (Not the pandemic hiatus anymore).

We did 2 nights of Silent DJ. DW loves it.

We saw Taylor Mason in the big theater and Eric Jones (shout out to Phila.) and Moonshot in the Tube.

Castaway Cay was great as usual, but due to unfavorable currents we didn’t get off the sip until 11 on CC Day. We still departed CC at 4:45. I was hoping for a little more time, but we didn’t get any. Also, the POS terminals went down on CC, so all transactions were done on paper and lines were long for souvenirs. We skipped getting anything.

As for souvenirs, we noticed that the shops were lighter than normal in their offerings. We really didn’t come home with any gifts. What no Lightyear or Dr. Strange merch?

Dinner was the same offerings as usual, and we had a bigger table. One night we had a substitute assistant server as another server got hurt and our assistant went and helped that other table.

We did notice things were a little out of sync with drinks not being prompt, some meals given to others of our table and some meals were cold. When we inquired about previous servers it was mentioned some went over to the Wish. So, I am wondering if the rumors of new hires/inexperience impacting the meals’ service are true?

Having the bigger group this cruise we did lot more trivia contests. I think its time DCL changed up its music trivia. We were 1 our of 4 groups that got a perfect score on the 80’s music trivia! And it’s because it’s the same questions. Time to mix things up here DCL!

On 2 nights there were severe downpours. It didn’t affect any events that we noticed, but it did make for exciting views on the pool deck.

TL:DR – Great Eastern 7 day Fantasy cruise with 2 families together. Tortola and CC were great, but St Johns was too windy!

I was on the Eastern two weeks before you and the same thing happened at CC - except we didn’t start disembarking until 11:30. I hadn’t sailed an eastern in a long time but now I’m thinking this may be a regular thing based on your report.

We also got the line about weather to explain the delay.
