Disney Fantasy - 7 night - Western Caribbean - 20 August 2016

We will be on this cruise. It will be myself, my DH, DD(16) and DD(12). We have been on the Fantasy before both to the Eastern Caribbean. We are looking forward to the different ports this time. My mother and aunt will be joining us this time too so we are looking forward to that as well. They will be in a separate room.

Hi everyone! We are currently a family of 4 - DH Jim, myself Susanne, DD16 Alexa and our foreign exchange student (i don't think there is an acronym/abbreviation for exchange students LOL!) Julie, age 18. We are looking forward to meeting this group in 7 months and would love to participate in the FE exchange. Count us in!:flower3:

Hi all! We're so excited to be on the Fantasy this summer! We sailed on the Dream last August for our first Disney cruise and enjoyed it so much that we booked onboard for another. We're a family of four coming from Washington state - myself (TB), my husband, and two daughters (15 and 11).

Hi Dana! It looks like you should be in this thread: http://www.disboards.com/threads/di...n-caribbean-aug-6-2016.3446660/#post-54404442

Have a wonderful time on your cruise!

I am going on this cruise with my family and after a chat with some experienced cruisers, we were advised to check this out! This will be our 1st cruise and we are all so excited! Travelling from uk with mother, wife, son aged 4 and daughter aged 13. We are a little worried our daughter may not get involved in the teen activities as quite shy with others In her age group! Not heard of the fish extedenders before so going to look that up now!
I've got loads of questions if anyone is able/willing to assist??? Cheers :)

Welcome! How old will your daughter be at the time of the cruise? If she's 13 she'll be in the Edge tween club and she'll be one of the older kids there (it's 11-14). My daughter will be there too and will be 11. On our last cruise, my oldest was a little shy about joining the teen club, vibe, as she was one of the youngest, but ended up having a fantastic time. She still keeps up with some of the friends she made on the cruise. I'd recommend your daughter attend the first night activities in the club when the counselors do a good job of hosting icebreakers and other get-to-know-you activities.

I'm happy to answer questions based on my "extensive" (one Disney cruise, hah!) experience. :-)

Thanks TeaBee, that's given me some confidence for her. She will be 13 1/2 so one of the older ones in that group. I will definitely ask her to go to the ice breaker session and hopefully she will click with someone fingers X .

Do you know how formal the 'formal' night is? Travelling from the U.K. I would rather not be packing tux and big ball gown if we can get away with summer dress & shirt and pants?

Also did you book for either of the palo or remey? Worth it or not?
Cheers

Our cruise was a four-night last time, so they didn't have formal night. From what I've read about it, there's a wide mix of formality. Some men wear tuxes, some suits, some just shirt and tie. Same range of formality for women. I don't think anyone will miss the tux and ball gown, especially if it means lightening your luggage! If you want to be dressy but not pack it, I believe they do have tux rentals available.

We ate at Remy and thought it was nice, but probably won't do it again. It is a lovely dining experience, but we've had tasting menus that we enjoyed more at restaurants here at home. Totally personal preference on that, though! I know there are a lot of people that rave about Remy and I do think it's worth going to at least once for the experience, just not something we'll repeat. We haven't tried Palo, and would like to book the brunch and the dinner this time if we can make the reservations work. Maybe you could do the Palo brunch and the Remy dinner to try both restaurants? If you don't end up doing either of them, you'll still have a great dining experience in the main dining restaurants. Do you have early or late dining?

Welcome Chappers! So glad you are joining us this August! I know you will and your family will have a blast! May I suggest that you find someone on this board that has a child roughly the age of your daughter and get them chatting before the cruise. Then we will most likely have a meet on the first day on the ship and she can meet face-to-face with them. That way your daughter will have someone to go to the club open house with. As for formal night, I would skip the tux/gown - you can definitely get away with as little as a shirt and tie and a dress for the evening. Since this is your first (not hopefully last as well) cruise I think there is so much to experience in all the dining rooms that Palo/Remy can wait for another time (this coming from someone who did Palo on our first cruise). If you do decide to go, make it on a night that you will NOT be Animators Palette. The kids will get such a kick out of that dinner you won't want to miss it.
This board is so helpful and will take all the hassle out of planning things so don't hesitate to ask anything!

Thanks for the great advice Kaizen & TeaBee !!!
I will definitely take it all on board (pardon the pun) !
I think we may try the brunch selection instead of a full evening meal actually.

So if any of the others on here have a tween girl also looking for a buddy on board please do get in touch and we'll get some communications commenced.

Has anyone done the couples massage at the spa? Neither of me or my wife have ever had a massage. Not sure if it's something she should do on own or not really. I think it's a bit expensive but hopefully be a lovely treat.

Hello! This will be my DH Rob, DD Shelby 12, DD Karly 9 and I's first Disney Cruise! We are so excited! We actually will be at WDW 3 days prior to the cruise. I have been doing tons of research on line but if anyone has any great tips please share!

Hi Heather! Welcome! You're all going to have such a great time. Shelby and my daughter, Amelia (11) will be at Edge together if she's planning on spending time in the kids club.

Where are you planning to stay at WDW? We're coming in the day before the cruise and spending a night at Animal Kingdom just to get in the Disney spirit.

We are staying at Animal Kingdom as well! My daughter is a little shy so that would be awesome if we could maybe meet up and the girls could get to know each other. We are from the US, Oregon to be specific. Where are you from?

We're from Washington state! PNW forever! :) It would be awesome to meet up that evening. We're planning on dinner at Boma around 7 if we can get reservations, then either trying to watch some animals or pool time. Amelia would love to go into Edge knowing someone. She's not super shy, but it's always nice for her to have a friendly face when going into a new situation.
