Hi, looking to join a FE group.

Howdy, Yvette! For awhile, I couldn't find a link for our cruise date, August 12, 2016....so thank you for getting one going for us. Less than 5 month away!!! I really need to get started on my fish extender gifts. This will be our first Disney Cruise for my son and me and we're Super Excited! I have so much to do between now and then; FE and gifts, pirate costumes, lanyard for the pin exchange....lots and lots to do!!!

This will be my 3rd Disney cruise, but first that time joining a Fish Exchange. I am hoping that someone who has done this before will take the lead and organize the group. I just don't have the bandwidth or experience. But I am just as excited as you are. We sailed on the Disney Dream in 2012, when the ship was less than a year old and we had a fabulous time.... So much to do. Your son will love it!!!!

We will be celebrating my sons 12th birthday onboard, since his birthday will be on Aug 13th!!! He is very excited as well. How old is your son?

I'm guessing someone who has done this before will "hop in the saddle!" It's my understanding that we learn each other's names, genders and staterooms....to know what kinds of gifts to give. When it gets closer to our cruise date, maybe more people will join. My name is Ray and I am the MOMMY! My son, Chase, is 7 years old and a gymnast. What is your son's name? I need to make a list so I can remember to bring a special FE gift for his birthday.

Thanks for the information. My son's name is Diego and he is a soccer player. My hubby and 20 year old daughter will be coming as well.

Since we still have 5 months until our cruise, I'm sure a veteran FE cruiser will join our cruise and be the organizer for this FE. Hope others will join the group!!

There's no reason it has to be a "veteran FE cruiser". Right now is a good time to get this started. Here's a little help on "how to":

SETTING UP A FE GROUP
It appears there are a number of you who are interested in a Fish Extender group. There isn’t one currently set up here on DISBoards. Here’s a little write up on how FE groups are set up:

There really are no “rules” as to how a FE program runs. Basically someone will step up and say “I’ll maintain the list”. This means they maintain the list of those who wish to participate. The group can decide on what information is necessary to produce FE gifts. A basic list may only have DISname/room number/number of people in the room. A more involved list could be first & last names/ages/room number/ favorite character/ favorite color/allergies/whatever is deemed necessary to know in order to create the gifts. Also a decision can be made as to size of FE group. Some groups break out the list(s) at 10-15 rooms max, so that there are multiple lists (and some people will participate in more than one list). Other groups just make one big list (upwards of 20-30 rooms).

The easiest, most private way to handle the information necessary to prepare the list (many people prefer not to put sensitive information on a public forum), is to use the “Conversation” feature here. There needs to be at least two people to start a conversation. Only the starter of the conversation (usually the organizer) can add additional people into the conversation (as long as they do NOT select “Allow anyone in the conversation to invite others” at the bottom of the reply window). Then when new people express a desire to join, usually by just saying “we want to join the FE”, the organizer can add them by clicking on the “Invite more” button in the “Conversation Participants” window (lower right of conversation page). Only those people participating in the conversation can see what’s posted there, and respond there. I will also note, to participate in conversations, everyone needs to have at least 10 posts. For those who wish to use this option for private conversations that don’t have 10 posts yet, head over to the Test Board to post and up your post count. http://www.disboards.com/forums/test-board.88/

Up to 20 people can participate in any given conversation.

At some point the list will “close”. Typically this happens 30-45 days out from the cruise, so that everyone participating has time to organize/prepare their gifts. Shortly before this time (about 2-3 weeks prior) the organizer will post the list, either directly on the Cruise Meet thread, OR via private conversation, or, possibility, via e-mails. This is to confirm everyone on the list is still participating. It’s important to make a statement about “anyone not confirming by XX date will be dropped” at this time. A little harsh, yes, but often there are people who will post on the cruise meet thread as soon as they reserve the cruise and say “I want to participate”, and are never heard from again.

Once the list closes, the organizer will post the final list. Also, a decision must be made as to whether to allow late additions. Sometimes there is a “pixie dust” list. That is, basically, a latecomers list that gets posted about a week out from the cruise that others may or may not add to their “final” list. Be sure the “pixie dust” list participants realize they may or may not get gifts from others, but are expected to provide gifts for the other FE participants anyway.

Hey! This cruise will be my first cruise with my daughter! My so excited that this FE group has been mad! I'm nervous about doing it,but excited also! My daughter is 6, she will be 7 by the time the cruise leaves!
We should also do a meet-up sometime while on the cruise. We will be staying at a Disney resort the night before, so if anyone else is we would definitely be willing to meet up if the distance is close!

Well, you can certainly cap the number of rooms/people on the list, if you wish. Many FE groups do.

Hi! I would like to join the FE group! It will be me, my name is Leah, my son Grayson who is about to turn 8, my daughter Addison who is 6 and their Grandma This will be our first cruise for all of us! I'm super excited bc it's also a surprise for the kids! They know we are going to Florida but just think it's to go to the beach. If I can keep it a secret we will tell them right before we go! Hey everyone! So I just wanted to make it official, I can maintain the FE List and make sure everything gets done before the cruise.
1) I will be stopping the list at 10 families. Just because most of us are sailing on our first cruise! The last day to join the FE group will be MAY 29, 2016!! The list will go out the second week in June!
2) I also will be starting a private conversation between today and tomorrow so everyone who is in the group can talk privately!
3) PLEASE let me know if you would like to join the FE group private conversation! If you are ABOVE this message I will already be adding you to this group!

Do you mean you were able to invite Ray&Chase, or that you were NOT able to? The private conversation feature is only available to those with at least 10 posts here on DISboards. You might be able to put the username in the list before that, but the person you are trying to include won't be able to access it until they have 10 posts.
