Disney Dollars

We are taking our 2 children to DW in June for the first time. I am trying to plan ahead with my 8 year old DD about budgeting. So anytime she gets any extra money, we buy Disney Dollars from the Disney store. I'm beginning to think this would be a good way for me to put money back as well because I won't be able to spend it until I get there. My question is....Can you spend Disney dollars at the restraunts on the properties? Where else can you spend them? From what I have read on these boards, there is a discounted store off the property that sells official Disney products. Can we use the Disney Dollars there? Any tips or suggestions concerning this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

We save up for American Express Traveler's Checks so that our money is protected. I was always nervous that I'd lose my Disney Dollars or they'd be stolen.(We got the idea from this board a long time ago.)

From what I understand Disney Dollars are just like money and can only be spent at the Disney Parks, Disney Store and to pay your cruise line bill. You can buy food with them in the Disney Restaurants , but I don't think private vendors take them, but I heard some do. Also they can be used in downtown Disney as well. Yes you can use Disney Dollars at any Disney restaurant or gift shop.

But I don't think you will be able to use them at that discount gift shop, I'm sure it is not Disney owned.

I buy Disney Dollars every year for my trip. When ever I'm at the mall I purchase a few and before you know it I have accumulated a nice size spending amount.

The Premier outlet location near Marriott@Little Lake Bryan takes Disney Dollars I cant remember whether or not the Belz Location does or not

We figured you could only use them in the shops, but the kids wanted balloons. We were out of cash so we asked if he would take Disney Dollars. The kids were excited to be able to spend their money and it saved us a trip to the ATM.
We give the D$ for allowance $ and for tooth fairy $. We go at least once or twice a year, so they will always have a chance to spend it.

I am giving my DD a dollar every time she uses the potty all day!!! I figure we will spend the $$$ anyone and not much else has worked.
