Where in Disneyland do they sell disney dollars/money? I have seen the new POTC money, but is that the only kind?

I want to get my oldest DD some disney dollars next month when we are there so she can buy something for herself. But she would enjoy princess/minnie mouse money more then pirate money.

In most stores, and at the hotels. They circulate a bit so you may be able to find an older series. You just may need to ask in multiple locations. In guest services I've always got new crisp bills.

This is probably not too helpful, but here's my experience with Disney Dollars at WDW:

Last August I purchased Disney Dollars for my daughter at the concierge desk of our hotel (Animal Kingdom Lodge). They come in denominations of $1, $5 and $10 and I'm pretty sure I had to pay cash for them (could not charge them to my room or to a credit card). It was a little bit of a production as the CM had to go find a special little cash box where they are kept and I had the distinct impression no one had asked for them in a looooong time. They were brand new and super-cute with different designs on the front and glitter embedded, lots of color, etc. My DD almost didn't want to spend them! (almost ;)).

I don't know if they have the same at DL. The front says "DisneyParks", leading me to believe they could be used at both, but the back has Cindy's castle so I'm not sure. I can't quite read the fine print in the pics, sorry. I would attach them but don't know how! They look much nicer in person anyway:

$1 = Mickey with a birthday cake and Pluto
$5 = Daisy and Minnie in party hats
$10 = Mickey, Donald and Goofy with birthday cake
The backs are all the same = Cindy's castle with mickey balloons

Honestly I don't think we realized how 'birthday-ish' they were at the time, just fun to have them and only in the center image on the front. I would assume you could get them at the concierge desk of any of the DL hotels or maybe at Guest Relations at the parks. I've never heard of POTC money!

I hope you find them!

LOL i know im thinking my DD wouldn't want to, either! :)

They have them at City Hall (guest info services), and at the Emporium on Main Street and the 5 & 10 (Five & Dime) in Toontown. I used to collect them yearly but I think they're going the way of the dinousar as they haven't come up with a new 'year' for a couple of years now. Think the Disney Gift Cards are taking their place. How sad...they make great souvineers...

We used to get them all the time, usually at City Hall, but they are also available at Guest Services and various stores. Since they are considered the same as a gift card, we would put them on our credit card instead of using an ATM machine and paying the fees. It is nice as they can be cashed back in if you don't spend all of them, and they give cash back in cash. In 2005, they had $50s also. (Have a few of those floating around...)

The ONLY place you can buy Disney Dollars in Disneyland is at City Hall. You can also buy Disney Dollars from the resort hotels. I'm not sure where, if anywhere, you can purchase Disney Dollars in California Adventure. They're not available at any of the stores within Disneyland.

Except apparently where I bought them in the parks.

This changes from time to time. During my Thanksgiving 2010 trip all the store cast members I asked told me the only place to buy Disney dollars in the park anymore was City Hall. They said the managers were tightening up the sale of them by restricting where they could be sold so as to avoid abuse, not sure about the specifics of these concerns. Then several months later (February 2011 I believe) I asked again at the Emporium on Main Street and they were able to sell them to me at that time. I asked what had changed and the cast members at that time said they restrict the availability of Disney dollars by location at times when the parks are experiencing very heavy crowds. After the Star Trader store re-opened this past summer, I was there in August and saw signs at some of the registers advertising that Disney dollars were sold there, so I bought some. That sign was still being displayed in January of this year. So while I don't know the current status of Disney dollar availability, I'm just pointing out that things can and do change frequently, so even though one of my trips they were only sold at City Hall, Disney dollars have been more widely available before and since. Never hurts to ask if it would save the time waiting at a possibly busy City Hall.

Interesting, as I did buy them at Emporium and in the Disneyana. I have also purchased them at Guest Services (west of Disneyland turnstiles) and at the ticket booths (ticket booths were several years ago.)

You can't buy them at the Emporium or at Disneyana currently. You were able to in the past, and, who knows, you may be able to again in the future. But right now, within the park they're only sold at City Hall.
