Disney Dollars on the ship?

Just curious. We had used Disney Dollars when we went to Disney World a while back to help us with our kid's spending. Basically, over the course of the year before we left, we asked relatives to give them Disney Dollars for thier birthday and then for Christmas, etc. When we got down there then, we told them that they had their own money to spend however they wanted. Can they spend them on the boat on excurions, arcade, etc.?

THey are accepted on the ship and can be used for whatever you would like. The only downfall is the only way you can turn them in is to credit them to your account at Guest Services. They (and cash) are not accepted anywhere else on the ship. We did just as you did and applied them to shipboard account total.

well that is a little bit of a bummer. I was hoping the kids would have their own money separate from ours so they could keep track better. We'll have to work something out then! Thanks!

They can keep track....though it will take a little bit of effort....they will have to go to Guest Service everyday and get a printout of what they spent....each stateroom printout is broken down by individual KTTW card so anyone can tell exactly who, what, where and how much was spent.

It will be a good way for the them to keep track...each morning or evening they can go to guest service and request a printout.

You can also put a dollar limit on specific cards if you want. I was thinking of doing this for my son.

Unless it has changed....I didn't think you could put a spending limit on the kids cards...either the kids had charging priviliges or they didn't.......any recent cruises care to post their experiences....

January 04 it was all or nothing for the kids charging privelages.

You cannot set a limit on KTTW cards.

We thought tying the KTTW card to a low limit credit card would work --- no, DCL just notified us that the credit card limit had been exceeded and we needed to come down to the desk to give them ANOTHER credit card number for the additional charges. They do not stop you from charging on your KTTW card.

Our solution: we go down to Guest Services daily (on 4 night cruises; we'll do every other day on the 14 night repo cruise) and get a print out of the stateroom bill. If our DD exceeds her predetermined limit that we've set, we cut her off (punching a hole in her KTTW ... that way it won't be accepted for charging privileges at the bars or stores).
