We ate at these restaurants and here are a couple comments:

Rose & Crown

Bomas (no problem having a soda & then coffee)

Kona Cafe (no problem having a soda & then coffee)

1900 Park Fare (where we were offered Smoothies, plus regular drinks)

Nine Dragons

Chefs de France (my daughter asked for sparkling water with lemon and they called it her drink - she could not also get a soda)

Sci Fi Diner (here we were offered Milkshakes as our drink)

Some days we used table service for dinner and some days we used it for lunch. On the occasions that we used it for a late lunch, we never used our counter service because we were too full for another complete meal. Therefore, on our last day, we had counter service credits available for breakfast (at Pop Century food court) and our lunch (at Earl of Sandwich).

On our last day, we had 5 snack credits remaining. We went to Goofy's Candy store at Downtown Disney and got a large bag of Mickey Pretzels, 2 large bags of Mickey cheese crackers, 1 large bag of Mickey snack mix with Pretzels & Crackers, and 1 large bag of Goofy Burger Parts Candy (my 21 year old's favorite snack).

Also, on our last day, I went into Earl of Sandwich and bought lunch for a family of 5 with our left over counter service credits. They were surprised that I would stand in line with them for over 30 minutes to use my left over credits to buy their lunch. No flames needed, I know how some people feel about doing this. But I just wanted to "make somebody's day special". If you decide to do something like this, remember to stay with the people and don't just hand over you room card because it is probably connected to your credit card too. The funny thing was that virtually everybody in that line was on the Disney Dining Plan.

Flames?? You 've got to be kidding. That was so nice of you. Thank you for all the tips. We will be there in 1 month

wow, how cool are you?! :cool1:

thanks for the first hand report... that's great news about the drinks (both soda/coffee, as well as smoothies!) :)

I would never flame you for being nice! You made someone's day!

You definitely had a lot of credits left over.

Nice way to pay it forward....

When you got the bonus drinks (or smoothies), did you ask straight out or did you simply order them and see if they went through?

Do they ask you when you order if you are on the plan so they know what not to allow you to order?

Thanks!!

Thanks for the report... it's great to know about the drinks!

Hooray for the pixie dust you gave to another family!

Our waiter at Ohana also offered non-alcoholic frozen drinks in addition to soda, and also told me I could have coffee with dessert if I wanted. At SciFi, we were told milkshakes could be had in place of soda as a beverage.

Thanks for the report.....no flames here!!!!
You should feel awesome for sharing the Disney Magic with someone. If someone did that for me, I would be tickled pink!!!!

Also GREAT idea about spending left over snacks at the candy store!!!

I know we have discussed the dining plan many times and it is why we have a separate board, but I have to say here on a personal level what you did was very nice and wouldn't it be a great thing for Disney to encourage those who have left over credits and are unable to use them all to pay them forward and treat someone to a lunch or dinner as they are leaving....maybe writing a letter to Disney might encourage them to do something like that...

Or how about this scenario, you have left over credits, you can turn them back in and get a credit for the next time you come.......I hear you on not using all your credits, there must be a way for Disney to come up with a creative way so that you are not leaving them unused and someone else benefits from them as you did treating this family or you benefit yourself.

You did a really nice thing, keep that DIsney Magic alive!!!! :cool1: :cheer2: What a memory you made for that family! I remember when someone gave us fast passes for a ride that was out. It was a thoughtful and kind thing and it really made our day. Free lunch is even better!

on this same line of thinking... wouldn't it be nice if they could "collect" any unused credits and give them to the Make A Wish type families...

WDW does not do this because I am sure they figured out that some people would not be able to use all of thier credits ... hence a better bottom line for them. It was figured in to the bottom line.

I have no problem with what the OP did and I think it's very nice of them to do so but others on here will have a problem with it.

This one may get closed by the mods as it was professing to use the plan in a way it was not intended.

oh, ITA that disney counts on some credits not being used and it's part of their "formula" to determine pricing... but in a perfect world :rotfl:

i don't see how paying it forward would be a breach of rules in that the plan states somewhere that you can use the credits as you wish...

Whenever we sat down for a meal, the first thing I did was inform the waiter that we were on the Dining Plan so that they could best advise us about what we could or could not order. The smoothies and milkshakes were offered -- we didn't ask. Some of our group took them up on these "special treats" and some didn't. Personally, I knew I was having dessert so I didn't think I needed to add a smoothie or milkshake on top of that.

All in the all the dining plan was a lot of fun. We had my college aged daughter (formerly on the Disney college program) and 1 of her former Disney college program roommates with us. (Another one of their roommates joined us for a few days.) They were so happy to be together and remember all the special times they shared at Disney during their college program. They are now talking about going back for the advanced internship.
