I had sent an e-mail last week to DVC member services about the 2010 Dining plan which increases to $47 next year during the holiday season and also the cost of 2 credits for the Candlelight Processional. A castmember (Joy) called me and I had expressed my concern that I, as a DVC member will probally not be using the dining plan for future visits as I feel that the increases are helping Disney subsidize their free dining promotions throughout the year. I explained that I understand that as a business that they have to do whatever it takes to bring people there, but as DVC members, if all were to stop buying the Dining Plan, than either the restaurants would be empty or they would have to offer free dining all the time to fill the restaurants. This is something that I am sure that Disney does not want to keep doing. Even though DVC has nothing to do with the dining plan, she assured me that she would bring up the complaint with the proper people as a number of people have already complained.

We had the DDP added to our January trip but have cancelled for the following reasons.First of all it was going to be over $800 for the days we were going to be there and there is no way for us to justify that much money when we will have a full kitchen in the villa. As DVC members we decided that the cost of the DDP was disporportional to the amount of food we would have to eat to break even. If the cost goes up again next year to $47 per person that would be outrageous. We too will never do the DDP again for that cost.Basically for the four of us that would be almost $200/ day for food :lmao:I do not know about everyone else but there is no way to justify that kind of cost when OOP would only be half or less.

The dining plan is less about saving money then it is about convenience. I have no doubt they will continue to raise the price because people find it convenient, and convenience has an expense to it. Most "all-inclusive" resorts are really not a good value because the price of the "all-inclusive" is steep and more about convenience then value (sometimes a necessity because of location).

well just get the dining plan and get the most expensive thing on the menu. We went to narcooses (spelling might be wrong) on the last day of our trip with the ddp and ordered tyhe surf and turf which if you would have gotten it with cash would have cost you $58 all buy itself.

So Why not get the ddp and use it to the full extent.

Do you mean that the DVC dining plan, that used to be $39/day is going up to $47 a day next year? If so, wow!:scared1: That's a 20% increase in one year. And they took away the tip and appetizer? I wonder how many DVCers will get the dining plan in 2010 vs. say, 2008 (when, I think, you still got more for your $39)?

You've got to be kidding? Do you honestly think that the restaurants would be empty if DVC members stopped getting the dining plan?

Disney does not give the dining plan free to fill restaurants, they are doing it to fill hotel rooms.

The difference in prices between 2009 and 2010 as posted on the member website is only $2.

2009 Adult Dining Plan is $39.99
2010 Adult Dining Plan is $41.99

There is going to be a seasonal price adjustment for the dining plan added to a stays booked by WDTC. There is no indication based on pricing on the member website if DVC stays will include the seasonal price adjustment.

If DVC members quit getting the dining plan, the restaurants would not be empty, nor would they be full ,unless there is free dining promos. Many DVC members are opting out of the dining plan because they are paying $40 which is a good price, but they are having trouble getting the restaurants they want due to so many people trying to make reservations, mainly due to the free dining promos.
In 2010 during holiday seasons the DDP is $47 if I am not mistaken

Again, free dining has nothing to do with filling the restaurants. It's a marketing tool to fill hotel rooms.

There is nothing on the member website for the 2010 Dining Plan to indicate that it will be subjected to the seasonal adjustment.

We ate at a lot more TS before the dining plan.
We book mostly lunchs at TS now as there are in general less people also less costly in the end.
we use it every few trips when we go for a short stay maybe 3 nights at the most.
if anything Disney is losing out with the DP as when we used it we certianly save money as do most.

But do you seriously think Disney would exclude DVC on that upcharge? [that sounds snarky, but I don't mean it against you - I mean it against Disney :flower3:]

I really think Disney will pass that seasonal upcharge along to DVCers as well. It makes little sense to upcharge someone paying big bucks in a deluxe room, and not upcharge DVCers.

But, you never know, maybe the upcharge decision was made after the DVC agreement for the DDP for 2010 was made. If that is the case, expect the upcharge in 2011.

But you had to use 2 dining credits to get that....and no appetizer. So bang for the buck.....you would be better off using those 2 dining credits at say....Le cellier and then Chefs de france.

Didn't Narcoosees remove the surfturf from the menu?

Anyway , we DVC will pay the upcharge and if you look at the holiday dates there are more days at holiday pricing than not. The entire summer is considered holiday!
I too feel like DVC members that use the ddp are subsidizing these promotions. We are a big enough resource to quantify and if we all pay $5 more next year, they can cover their loss this year. We don't qualify for free dining and pay the going rate. We fill 7 resorts on the regular and have money to spare or so they think.
When we go in Dec
ember, we will not eat 1 ts meal at wdw during our 2 week stay. I have no desire to pay holiday pricing for anything they are serving when we have a THV and a car. I hate to go offsite, but we will go to Costco and buy catered platters and trays and all the restaurant quality easy to prepare meals we can get and enjoy our resort holiday.

I thought the holiday upcharge, for cash customers, only applies to Buffets and Character meals, not standard TS? I agree, if they apply the charge to our regular TS lunch time meals, we'll likely dine offsite as well in June. I've never used a DDP and have no plans to do so, I have the DDE/TiW.

Exactly ditto for us except for where we are staying in December.:thumbsup2

Does the free dining offer thru Dec. 17 apply to DVC members also or do you have to book the package? Thanks for any help.

"Free" dining is only available when you book the package via CRO.

The DDP was a deal when the tips and appetizers were included but the prices increases couple with no app and no tip makes it difficult for me to see the huge value in it. For us, we eat WAY more than we normally would with the DDP anyway so there is no real savings.
