Disney Dining and changing guarantee credit card

I upgraded my credit card account, which resulted in a new credit card number. I have a DL dining reservation guaranteed under the old number. My card issuer said this would be no problem because they'd accept charges under the old number, but after I'd irrevocably changed the number they indicated that this was not guaranteed.

When I called Disneyland Dining, the CM said that they don't change credit cards once you've made a reservation, and there is no reason to worry about my reservation being cancelled despite the guarantee credit card no longer being an active card. She literally refused to accept a valid credit card number.

Seriously? Do I call back until I get a CM who will let me guarantee my reservation with an active credit card or is this really okay? I'm reluctant to cancel and rebook because it's a Fantasmic dining package with very limited availability.

This happend to us the last time we went (different card number between when we made it and when we showed up). It was no problem at all - they didn't use the card on the reservation to pay for the meal or to keep our reservation. They came out with a standard restaurant check and folder and we just put our new credit card in. Just check and make sure your reservation still shows in your account - I'm sure all is well.

The only thing the guarantee card is used for is to charge you if you don't show up-- and if they can't charge the card for that, all the better! I wouldn't worry about it.

Thank you! I appreciate hearing from someone else in the same situation. It puts my mind at ease.

Yeah, there is no charge or check on your card that guarantees the reservation...only held on file and charged if you no show.

I've never been asked to show my credit card for any dining reservation, so no need to worry.

At which point it would be fraud. You agreed to pay the no show fee when you maid the reservation, intentionally avoiding it with an expired or canceled fraud doesn't remove your obligation to pay if you no show.

My "all the better" was mostly facetious, but in this case, she's not intentionally avoiding it or trying to commit fraud-- the card was valid at the time the reservation was made, she's tried to change the card, and Disney won't allow her to. If OP bails on the reservation (not that she has any intention of doing so) and Disney can't charge the card on file, it's on Disney at this point, not the OP. She's done her due diligence.

No, kidding, which is one reason that I was uncomfortable when the CM on the phone would not let me add a valid credit card number and told me that it was no big deal if any no-show fee couldn't be charged. I have zero intention of no-showing, and I really doubt someone would go through the hassles of canceling a card to avoid a $10 fee, but still...

Has anyone managed to change the credit card on a dining reservation ahead of time without canceling and rebooking?

If you upgraded an existing account, it is still the "same" original account, just a new account number. Your bank or cc company can still access your "old" account so any valid use of the "old" account (e.g. using it to guarantee a reservation) still exists so if you don't show up and didn't cancel the reservation your "old" account can still be charged. We had the same situation and the bank confirmed any outstanding charges such as dining reservation guarantees when the account number was changed. If you completely close the account that would be a different situation.

My credit card expired once in between making dining reservations and our trip. None of the reservations were cancelled and we didn't have any issues whatsoever. You should be fine, as the credit card is mostly used to deter no-shows.
