LMAO... I think that was a wise decision by Disney. Interesting article. I never say any of these special editions. And I am thinking I am glad I haven't... just watching one of the little video blurbs in the article; that was horrible idea to replace the 'Father' with the 'Teenager' version of Anakin's ghost.

I find it odd that Lucas... Still... Will talk sour grapes about Star Wars...

You'd think the guy didnt sell 40 BILLION of product off it...

The "prequels" were as bad as it could have reasonably got. The "stories" were just awful and the look of the movies appeal to an age range of about 4-7 1/2...

So I don't weep for mr Lucas. It's becoming clear over time that his "great movies" were being sheparded by others...notably Gary Kurtz, Lawrence kasdan, frank Marshall, Kathy Kennedy, and Spielberg

I do worry about Abrams though... His take on Star Trek, while lauded by many, wouldn't fit well with Star Wars.

Here's to hoping...at this point the movie is all but made.
It is whatever it's gonna be

Did Lucas really destroy or otherwise alter or "use up" the negatives from the original trilogy? I find it hard to believe that he would be that dumb or egomaniacal, or that 20th C. Fox would ever let him get away with it.

If they really are gone, they should just rename the movies "The Magnificent Ambersons Ep. IV, V and VI".

That's the story...

Highlighted brilliantly in the Mockumentary "the people vs George Lucas"

But strong rumor is that Disney will be releasing the "original" format movies on blu ray and perhaps digital this summer as a ramp up...

Maybe Marty McFly took the delorean back in time to retrieve them?

I'm not buying this at all. I think George is hedging his bets in case this movie gets lambasted the way the prequels did. If it does do well, he'll come back in a few years and say they used his general outline. In the interview this article is based on, George said his story passes the torch to the next generation. According to the rumors I've read that is what the new trilogy is about. Remember this is the same guy who can't keep the story straight on how many movies he planned to make.

Could be...

But he lost all credibility as a "story teller" by screwing up the backstory of his own story.

That would be like Boeing building a plane without wings...
Of course... If its a Spirit plane...it wouldn't make for any more of an uncomfortable ride than they already put out there :)
