Those stuffed lettuce things must be new, we didn't have them in Dec. Do they still serve the noodles? E also love O'Hara. My son must have eaten 30 shrimp.
Those new buses look awesome especially at night.
The one reason I hesitate to stay at CBR is hat the custom house is separated. We use magical express so it would be a pain.
Glad you enjoyed your dinner at O'hana!! We LOVE breakfast there! It's a must do for us.
Aren't the construction walls just pitiful?? So sad for those people who pay so much to look at plywood boards all the time.
The new buses are so cool!
about John's "special" shirt. That's so funny that he is doing pictures in it and got another compliment on it!
O'hana looks delicious! I went back and forth on booking it my next trip. I didn't, but I may still change to eating there between now and then. And I agree that it's a pity that the people staying at the Polynesian have to look at the construction, especially with how much they are paying!!
I keep going back and forth, back and forth about getting an Ohana reservation for DH and I during our trip later this month. The menu is one our kids would not enjoy, so we would leave them behind at Wilderness Lodge to do a quick service dinner (DS11, DD17) while we enjoy Ohana. I have made and cancelled a reservation twice. LOL. Your review makes me think I need to add it back in... Guess I could add it toward the end our trip and cancel before 24 if I don't think we will use it!
Oh, by the way..... I like John's shirt!![]()
Does your family know how lucky they are to have you get that reservation? Seriously. You rock.
Oh yeah, I made sure that I reminded them of that fact.
Your dinner looks really yummy!
It was just as delicious this time as in the past.
I agree that the Poly looks like crap right now. I would be so disappointed if I was staying there, although the rooms are pretty sweet, so maybe I could overlook it.
Even the grounds in front of the resort looked bad.
Too funny about John's shirt! Yup - looks like a regular t shirt to me. Perhaps it holds some magical power.Gotta love your ongoing joke. Too funny!
Yayayayay for your first park coming up.Hope you love your new room!
Just want to let you know that I am really enjoying your report. Thanks!
Okay, I think I am doneover John's shirt. You guys crack me up (so wish we'd had more time together...I think we would have been "wetting our pants").
I am sure that we would have had to look for some very expensive Disney underwear.
Nice pictures of your tour of the monorail resorts. Although I've no desire to stay at the GF, it certainly is beautiful. But I'm like you...not my style at all.
It's gorgeous and I like to visit but I'm more of a country kinda gal.
I'm glad you had a good dinner at Ohana. I love those pot stickers and Mark loves the dessert. However, as you know, the rest of our meal was awful and it will be a very long time, if ever, that we go back.
Thank goodness Disney has so many restaurants!
I just about cried the night we went to the Poly for our dinner at Kona. It just made me sick to see that beautiful lobby torn up like that.
It was just so...so...so...ugly!
Tell Hunter he did a great job of trying to look like the statue.
Will do.
So nice you had a pleasant conversation with the CM's at bell services.
They were some of the best CMs we encountered all week.
Oooh....where are you going for your first park day?
I love the picture of you and John at Ohana! You guys are just having too much fun -- all the pictures and stories of "the shirt" are just great! I am sooo drooling, thinking about dinner at Ohana...
Tell John that is absolutely the most amazing shirt that I have ever seen!!
Again, coming out of Lurkdom...I just love your reports! Y'all are so funny and I love how your sense of humor comes through in your writing!![]()
This is the best update ever!
Love the tour pictures.
Love the pink leopard Minnie ears behind Hunter and the Hat.
Love the details.
Love O'hana.
But MOST of all......
Love the shirt!![]()
John's shirt is fantabulastic!
Ain't it though?!
Ah, the "back" of Ohana. If it's where I'm thinking, that is where we have been seated the last couple of times we've eaten there. It's okay, but it's not the real Ohana for us.
Usually, we are seated on the other side but, like I said, the "normal" way had construction stuff there so I wondered it part of the restaurant was not being used.
I would be so disappointed to be staying at the Polynesian and have all that construction going on. My SIL was booked at Wilderness Lodge for October and we had her change resorts because the main pool is going to be closed. I know that things need to be done, but you always hope that it's not going to coincide with your trip.
I've been following the WL thread and saw that all of the bruhaha about the pool being closed. I saw someone post that the guests can ask for a rate adjustment after they get there and they are handling it on a guest by guest basis.
Contemporary always feels like our second home. When I first started going to Disney, I always said that I didn't like it and I would never stay there. Oh, how things change. Now it's in our top 3 resorts.
About the shirt. Tell John it truly is an amazing shirt. I love that you made up a whole story around it.
I'll be sure to tell him that his shirt has another admirer.
The dinner at O'hana looks so good. We've only had breakfast there, which is good, but that dinner looks amazing.
We always enjoy dinner there. Like I said, I'll make sure that it's always on our ADR list from now on.
The Poly is my dream resort, so I'd be super disappointed if I was staying during construction. I guess we just have to remember it will look awesome when it's done.
Mine too! Hopefully, it will be just as beautiful when they are finished.
Yay for great cast members. So nice you had a great conversation and a nice walk back to your room!
I'm do glad you liked Ohana!!! My sister and get family went 3x on her trip the other week & they have just raved over it.. So much that every time I mention next year's trip.. DH has to ask about making sure I get the reservation for it! Im guessing its the meat! Lol I will be online bright & early ( will be at beach the day ours becomes available)
I agree about the POLY.. Definitely not the same at all..
Hi! I'm just joining in but I simply had to come check out your TR since I saw that you're also from Louisiana!
Loving the TR so far! Sounds like y'all have a lot of fun! Excited to hear about the rest of the trip.![]()
Ok, so that shirt is just beyond AMAZING!!!!
We have absolutely no idea why the shirt was so amazing to everybody? Crazy!
Sad that the Poly is all torn up. It will be interesting to see what it looks like when it is finished. I think I will be missing the fountain, though.
The concept art looks pretty but it's going to look so different.
Our last couple meals at O'hana were less than amazing. The wings and potstickers were still awesome! And the desert was great as usual. But I agree with you on the steak. Just too raw to eat. We sent it back the first time, but then it just ended up charred on the outside and still raw inside.
I do not like red meat and this was really red. It was okay though because the other meats more than made up for the steak.
Fun little tour of the resorts! I love doing this. It's a great way to check out all the spaces. I still mean to get over to see Fort Wilderness one of these times.
Oh yeah, you need to visit Fort Wilderness. The store there has some "different" merchandise.
And I am with you and Kathy on GF! Too Richie rich in there for me. Makes me feel like I have to walk around with my hands in my pockets for fear of accidently breaking something of great value.
I still haven't eaten at Ohana for dinner. Tried it several times for breakfast and love it! The food does look delicious so maybe one day I'll get there.
Love the new longer buses. I've never seen them before but they are definitely needed.
Oh and love the shirt!!![]()
FYI...updated my TR and this update included our wonderful DIS meet.![]()
too funny about the shirt! I wonder what's up with that?![]()
Joining the party a little late.
I have eaten at O'Hana but it isn't one of my have to do's.
I love the CBR pictures and glad the bail money didn't have to be used at least on the first day.![]()
I was a bit behind!! I must say, that is a fabulous shirt! LOL! I certainly hope there will be more adventures of you trying to scope out new rooms, I'm very curious to see what has changed! Loving this TR.
*******A moment*******
Let's all take a moment.....
to honour....
the one.....
the only....
SHIRT....
but is it just any ordinary shirt?
NAY!
It's the greatest and best shirt known to mankind!
And its owner is none other than John! What a lucky man indeed!
Wars have been started for less....
Men have fought and died for it....
Hurricanes....Typhoons....Hordes of Locust!

Okay, I totally LOVE the shirt story! And I totally get your family and your sense of humor!
Alan, it's so nice to see another person who appreciates the wonderfulness of "the shirt" and our sense of humor.
Wow, I would have to say your description of the Grand Floridian, (as well as Tiggerrn2's,) is pretty much the same as mine. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL grounds, but I feel like it is so pristine I'm going to break something. I LOVE visiting this resort, and especially dining at Narcoossee's. (Now I must try the Grand Floridian Cafe as well!) But I do not think I would like actually staying there.
Definitely give Grand Floridian Cafe a try. It's been great every single time we have eaten there.
What was the actual date you ate at Ohana? I agree with you 100% about all the construction. Very NON-Disney World like. It's hard to enjoy the "magic" when it's too consumed by the actual real world. Dry wall and construction dust hardly make for a nice dining environment, especially at Kona. That said, we actually loved our Ohana experience again on our trip as well! We ate there on Saturday, May 31st. And those lettuce cups were definitely spicy! Our server/cousin told us that they were "testing" those as a possible item for the future. I loved them! I say bring 'em on!
I believe that we were at Ohana on the 25th. Ohana is one of our favorite Disney restaurants and will definitely be on our list of May/June, 2015 ADRs.
We had a very pleasant Ohana experience once again! They were quite busy and I think your service can possibly make or break this experience. Fortunately we had a wonderful server. And the bread pudding is Ahhh-MAAYY-zzzzING~!
Loving the trip report! Keep it up!
Ok, I'm still giggling about the shirtThat's just too funny! Sounds like "the shirt" is destined to become a Mickeystoontown family tradition
If I could find that same shirt online, I'd buy one for every day we are on vacation. It's such a wonderful shirt!
Glad ya'll had a great meal at Ohana's despite the ugly construction going on! My mouth was watering looking at your pictures! The food there is so good, especially that banana bread pudding!
Love love love Ohana! The construction was ugly but the food made up for it.
Great update! I enjoy getting my WDW fix from your TR![]()
It's funny how his shirt is so popular!! And I've always loved how little things like that turn into family running jokes.
We have a lot of stupid running jokes in our family.
We actually haven't eaten at Ohana yet. We had a couple of opportunities when it was just me and DH. Then we had a restless little pirate and had to be pretty choosy about timing and such for our meals. Now that that little pirate is reasonable at sit down meals, we've got a new little pirate!! I am looking forward to eventually trying it though!
Oh my gosh, trying to get that O'hana's reservation is hard work! It requires an incredible amount of patience and perseverance. (I had to look for one in May, as well.). I hope the boys appreciated your ADR stalking.
I watched the Disney Dining page forever to pick up that reservation. Next trip, I'm booking it without even asking anybody.
The food looked delicious, and I'm glad you ended up with the loaves of bread that you asked for.
The bread is soooo good!
I sure hope all those guests are forewarned about the construction prior to booking. It really does span the whole lobby area. And to not have a pool in that FL summer's heat....
I remember the year that they were redoing the CBR pool and people being upset. At least at the CBR there are lots of quiet pools to swim in.
Too funny about the shirt. Who'd have guessed it'd be such a hit? At least your DH knows he's got at least one really great shirt in his wardrobe to fall back on.![]()
New reader and I'm all caught up!Great report!
That is TOO funny about the shirt! What a hoot!
I love OHana, too - I know it's get mixed reviews but we go there nearly every trip.
Thats so funny about the shirt...and something our family would do as well. We are a bunch of dorks too.
I am not a fan of Ohana...though I only ate dinner there once...but those lettuce wraps? Ick...how do you eat those? I guess it just sounds too strange for this dork.![]()
I was cracking up at the whole shirt story... and I totally love that yall played along and made it a running joke with your family! That's something yall will always remember and can always laugh about![]()
We love visiting the Grand Floridian, too but I'm always so worried we stick out like a sore thumb in there. I always walk in and exclaim, "The circus has come to town!"
Mmmm Ohana! I want some of that bread pudding right now.
Joining in and so glad I am! I am planning on booking Carribean Beach next year (providing that they will sleep 5 after the refurb), so I am loving getting an inside look at the resort.
Also, I have to comment on your night at the Boardwalk. I was planning on taking my family to the Boardwalk at night during our trip in a few weeks, but we are now thinking to go to Disney Quest that night instead. I had heard the same that you had, about all of the entertainment and fun at night, so we would have been so disappointed if we had gotten to the Boardwalk and been bored! Thanks for the heads up!
Oh, that shirt!!It's simply amazing!
It is THE MOST AMAZING SHIRT EVER!
Your family is so lucky that you got that Ohana reservation! The food looked good (I like everything there!). Too bad about the construction mess. I have always wanted to stay there and now I hope I'll be able to use my DVC points there someday.
I was so happy when I was able to snag the ADR at Ohana. Couldn't let the family down.
Cool buses.
They are neat from the outside and even cooler on the inside.
Nice chat with the CMs at CBR! I love when stuff like that happens!!
Me too.
What a lovely stroll with your hubby back to the room. I hope your room transfer went smoothly and you got a great room.
It went very smoothly and I'll talk about it more in my next update.
We stayed at the Contemporary years ago when they had two garden wings. The rooms were so big! I liked that but the decor doesn't really appeal to me. We stayed at Bay lake - same thing (although the studio room was not that big).
I think that I'd really really like being close enough to the Magic Kingdom that I could walk there but I don't care for the decor.
Now the Grand Floridian - I could totally do that!!! I'd love to pretend I'm all that fabulous!! I'm sure I would fool NO ONE! But I could give it a shot! Again, maybe someday I'll use my DVC points for a night or two (that's all I could afford probably!).
You sure have a way to draw us lurkers out! Loving the TR so far. Had me in stitches regarding your first day experience and the busses. Absolutely ridiculous. Had to read 3 paragraphs to my honey and got a big 'ol grin out of him. We have been recovered from our experience long enough now to really find the humor. We came home from our trip thinking our favorite ride was the busses as we spent sooooooo much time on them. Our first day/night was one that if it could go wrong, it did.
I sure hope that you come out of lurkdom as often as you'd like. And, I'm glad to hear that your hubby is enjoying it too.
The bus ride was r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s! Normally, we don't mind the bus rides at all but two hours was beyond "enjoyment".
So glad you could find the silver lining. Looking forward to keeping up with the rest of your updates.
I am hoping to get another update posted today.
Not that you put it out there for a vote.....but I for one vote that John wears that shirt for all future photos. It's just that great.
Nothing but good has come out of the Poly construction for our family. If it was not for the construction over there we would have never found out about the beauty of CBR! On top of that it saved us 2 grand and that was after we were able to upgrade to the Deluxe dinning. It was a win win situation! Just love the drama about your sneaking to get a peak at the reburbishment. Can not thank you enough for your efforts!
All caught up!
When DH and I get caught in a traffic jam we always say we would go 100 miles out of our way just to be moving, it at least feels like we are getting some where.
I'm the same way. I hate just sitting there in traffic thinking that I could be going somewhere...anywhere.
Isn't it the best feeling getting onto Disney property? What a bummer of a first night. I would not have been fit company, when I'm tired or hungry I can't even stand myself. Hangry does not even begin to describe itand unfortunately my girls are the same. Not a good combination, I've learned to always carry snacks.
You need that sign that I saw at Kirkland's Saturday and posted a picture of on Facebook.
You are a much better DISer than I am, I've been known to tell anyone travelling with me that if they do anything to get thrown out of Disney I would deny even knowing them.![]()
Oh Lordy! We do not need to travel together....you'd leave me in the Disney Jail to rot!
I love O'hana's! At our reservation last year Abby was on her phone texting while we were waiting for dessert. The ukulele man was strolling around singing and started singing a song to her about ignoring him and being on her phone.![]()
I am obviously late in joining but, I am here and going to do some catching up. I've seen you on the CBR thread and a couple of other TR's so I thought I'd join in here. Besides you have a great name. How could a Lisa steer anyone wrong?
Lisa![]()
I am all caught up ..... that's right...right behind the post that said I was going to catch up!I could not sleep last night (that's what Mt. Dew at the ballpark will do) and this morning I came right back here. I'm going backwards here a little but, I will try to be quick.
![]()
Love me some Mountain Dew!
I love the traveling pics! I think I will have DH and DS do that when we go back in Dec.
We have a long drive and I have to have something to document that we really drove. I will take picture of anything though. My memory cards would prove it.
I hate that tunnel in Mobile...I swear I only go east to west through that thing when the sun is at the mouth of the tunnel. Talk about blinded by the light!
I think the only time that traffic wasn't bad in Mobile was the time we drove through about 10:30 at night.
The "stocked fridge" in the hotel...DH would have been excited that they left him chilled beer.Yeah, he would have drank it immediately!
CBR....love it! That's where we stayed last Christmas and we are returning this Christmas...I can't wait! Also, thanks for all the pics here and on the CBR thread.
Ahhhh, I am jealous! I'd love to be at the CBR at Christmas time!
2 Hours and a Bus....that should be the name of a horror movie.
It was horrendous!
We have yet to eat at 'Ohana and man it looks good. We have an ADR for our next trip and I can't wait to gain a pound or two!
It took us many many trip to WDW before we decided to give Ohana a try and man oh man, am I glad that we did. It's great!
Can't wait to hear more from you.![]()
