We're trying to decide on a post-COVID family reunion.
3 families and 1 grandmother. Kids ranging in age from 6 to 12. Everyone has been to WDW many times, and love it, but we want something different. Most of the kids have read/seen Harry Potter.

Which would you recommend:
4 or 5 day Disney Cruise
5 days at Universal, staying at one of the premiere level hotels

Assume prices are roughly equivalent and everyone wants to do both, but we have to pick one.

I'd love any thoughts you all have!

I would do whatever the adults want or whichever is cheapest. I've been on many cruises, including Disney. There is something for everyone on a cruise, but you're restricted to the cruise ship most days. I like cruises for visiting more exotic places but a 4 or 5 day Disney cruise isn't exotic.

Universal is a three day park. Cruise excursions can get expensive. I'd opt for a combination trip.

We've done a family trip to Universal, but we had transportation so went to Disney Springs one night to do the Void virtual reality experience. You could day trip other places if you had extra time. There is also Volcano Bay waterpark and perhaps Universal will be back to allowing pool hopping. There is a movie theater and mini golf at City Walk.

DCL is pricey. But I think it's the better option as you won't be rushing around everywhere. So you'll be more relaxed when you get together at dinner or whenever.

How old is the grandmother? Universal is not like wdw. Lots of movement on rides might be only a few rides that she will want to do.

I agree with this. I am not a grandmother, but I am in my late sixties and when my adult son and I went to Universal last year with relatives, I spent A LOT of time waiting for people on rides. When I was younger, I would go on just about everything, but now I have a heart condition and the virtual reality rides make me dizzy.

I also think 4-5 days at Universal is just too long. You could do it in two. I will say that the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is very cool!

DCL primarily for the independence. Should grandma feel tired, she can simply return to her stateroom to re-energize.
