Has Disney put out what their policy is going to be, at least for the first batch of cruises to start cruising again? I haven’t seen anything yet, but I have seen policies on many other cruise lines. I also saw their policies for the UK staycations, but nothing for general US cruises. I dont even think they put anything out yet if they will be vaccinated cruises only or a mix of them. If anyone knows anything as we go along here, please feel free to post up.

Interesting. I think Disney will start using the Magic Bands to meet this requirement. Lots of people have been asking for them to be used on board for a long time, not just at the kids clubs, instead of the Key To The World cards. Maybe that’s what’s holding them up? Implementing something along these lines, bc I believe CDC said some sort of contact tracing on board is required. The Magic Bands would be the easy way to go. We always use them at the resorts as they are convenient and easy. We’ll see i guess.

There have been so many movies made about this kind of stuff. Sadly, it does seem to be where the world is headed.

I'll never go back on a cruise ship ever again. This is insane.
Don't assume that these things are actually going to happen. "Encouraged" and "required" are two different things. Plenty of potential cruisers would balk at paying for the privilege of being electronically tracked like a criminal, and cruise lines will take that into consideration when making their plans. Some lines might require it short-term to get cruising restarted, knowing that their most gung-ho loyalists will put up with anything to cruise again, but once it gets closer to normal volume of cruises and they have to fill ships regularly, I'd bet my bottom dollar that they won't require customers to accept electronic tracking.

Let me say first that I’m not an advocate for being spied on or tracked by government or anything, but most people need to realize, if you are apprehensive about stuff like these contact tracing technologies, why do you willingly keep the most invasive device in human history in your pocket and with you at all times? Your cell phone can do ALL of this and FAR FAR more. People willingly take devices with tracking software, sensitive microphones that can be set to “always listen’ and HD cameras into bedrooms and bathrooms all the time. Yet complain about something like this.

Point is, if you dont want to be tracked, you have to go all in. Can’t get made at a business or industry for doing stuff like this, then go back to your devices doing the same without a care. We have to accept some level of risk to use tech in our lives, and it’s up to each individual to chose which is acceptable. Contact tracing thru devices on ships is a much smaller risk than the tracking on your phone. It really is.…

Now back to the actual topic and reason I posted this thread, I just want to see when Disney officially says what we would have to do, if we chose to cruise with them again. Any info on that, or even other cruise lines is quite welcome on this thread. Thanks!

You can stop your cell phone from tracking you by turning location, wi-fi and cellular data off.

Plus, for most people there is a difference between knowing a 3rd party commercial interest might be randomly tracking you along with millions of others to aggregate consumer data, and knowing that the cruise line that you paid for your vacation is specifically tracking you, to make sure you don't go to the "wrong" location, and that they're actually making you wear a special tracking device for this purpose.

For many reasons, that doesn't work. First if you turn all those settings off, you don't have a cell phone anymore. The settings in a device are only trustworthy if the device is trustworthy. I work in cyber security, for decades now as well as being a "spook" in the military (if you know what that is, then you know), and trust with digital devices connected to a network is something that has to be earned and verified. Continuously. The cruise lines can track you far more easily and always have been able to for decades. Cameras are on every deck outside of rooms and bathrooms. Your key to the world card details your trip thru your purchases. Using the cruise line app gives the opportunity for even more tracking.

I'm saying, you can balk at the new policies if you want and you have EVERY right to do so. As a good and concerned citizen, be active in demanding what data they are collecting and what is being done with it. Just understand what you have already given away to just use a cell phone or other smart device.

So then why do they need RFID bracelets if they have been tracking everyone just fine for "decades."

The idea that we are supposed to just accept new restrictions and tracking techniques and other Big Brother advances in our lives just because cell phone companies were doing certain things for years makes no sense.

The magic bands allow for contact tracing beyond cameras. It's as simple as that. RFID is great for things like that. Been studying it and working with it for years. You can read all about the technology online.

Also, if you don't trust it. Don't go. It's your choice. No one is forcing you on a cruise. Just be aware the same tech is in use at Disney world and Land and has been for years in the wristbands and the cell app.
