Disney converting hotel rooms into 'princess,' 'health' suites

I think the wellness and health suites are a great marketing strategy! The goal of this is to bring in new clients. There are a select group of people (obviously not us who are on the boards!) who don't like going to Disney because they don't think it's a vacation. This is a way to target a certain kind of vacationer.

I am kind of annoyed by the addition of the Princess rooms, personally.

I think it just screws up the theming of POR.

If they had really wanted to put some effort into it, they could have used The Princess and the Frog theming and really really done it up over there - plussed up the bayou theme and the new Orleans Jazz theme - still worked the Princess theme, but gone more with Tiana's angle. It would have "fit" with the theme of POR the way that the Pirate rooms "fit" at CBW. Instead we have a melting pot of Princesses - most of which have a European bent - tossed helter-skelter into a Bayou resort. Way to screw up the theming, Disney. :sad2: And sorry, but a lame backstory about Tiana inviting her friends over for a "sleepover" isn't going to help things any.

I just think they dropped the ball on this one - another example of how they lose the magic and the beauty and the theming at the expense of cramming more Princess Marketing down our throats.

I'm just kind of heartbroken that the Princess rooms are going to be a reality and not the Haunted Mansion ones:sad2: Those would have been so much cooler.

I agree...but I think the princess rooms will appeal more to a bigger group of people than the haunted mansion rooms. I would have loved to stay in a haunted mansion room myself...

I'm so getting a Princess room if we go back. Ariel, Jasmine, or Tiana please!

I agree. I can't argue with the fact that there are many people with little princess who will love these rooms, but the location seems forced. It doesn't flow with the rest of POR's story or feel at all!

I do agree. They should have made them all Tiana based if they want to go with the princess theme. I don't exactly buy the "visiting princess" theme either but I'll take it anyway. But personally, I don't see the Haunted Mansion fitting into any of the resorts very well. Most families probably aren't going to want to stay in a "haunted" room.

From the blog:
Yes, I was told that the Royal rooms were designed to appeal to BOTH boys and girls. Tiana’s royal friends will add special touches to the rooms – and not all of her friends are girls!
So there's hope for boys too, lol. I personally would like a Ray or Louis themed room too!

There will still be traditional options as well. Roughly 500 of the rooms will be “transformed” into the Royal Guest Rooms. The rest will remain the same.
Is that like 2 buildings or so?

If you look at the virtual make-up photo of the room on Disney's blog, the rooms look more "royal" than princess-like. I think "royal-like" should be marketed more than "princess". Read carefully:

The below text is from the blog:
Exciting enhancements also are taking place over at Disney’s Port Orleans Resort, with 512 Royal Guest Rooms planned to debut by March 2012. The story behind these lush rooms is that Princess Tiana (“The Princess and The Frog”) invited some of her royal pals – Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”), Jasmine (“Aladdin”) and more – for a vacation getaway. Princes and princesses of all ages can enjoy their luxurious lodging quarters, which will include ornate beds that feature headboards with fiber-optic special effects, and gold and crystal accents. Guests also can enjoy artwork and special mementos left by Tiana’s royal friends.

ETA: sorry allonte, I posted the same thing you are saying :)

I do agree with you there....but I don't think any other Moderate would have fit any better. I don't think they would have done this at FQ because it's so small to begin with. PO-R is the largest resort on property, so it's really the only place that can absorb having to shut down 500+ to refurbish them. But maybe my thinking is wrong :confused3

Just a question, what is the appeal of a Queen bed? I don't get it....but then again, I usually only travel with my DM and I do get a whole bed to myself. Maybe that's where I'm missing the boat, lol.

I am REALLY excited about it though! I can't wait to see the new rooms, and it would make me re-think staying at Riverside (where I said I would never stay because of the size, lol!)

You're apparently unfamiliar with Club Med and Canyon Ranch. There's giant business in health focused resorts.

At Disney? Seriously, why wouldn't you just go to one of them? :confused3

I think it's a big fail personally.

The last thing WDW needs is more bloody Princesses to trip over...

The HM themed rooms would have been way cooler. :headache:

SO excited to hear this is coming. :dance3: I think the Spa rooms are a great idea for honeymooning couples. I know we would have stayed in one for ours.

Seems like their is so little time for them to get this done though!:scared1:

If you have a 6ft+ DH and usually end up with a child or two in your bed at some point in the night, it's a huge deal! I hate being crowded when I'm trying to sleep, I'm not a cuddler. We have a king bed at home. We're staying at CBR in Sept which has doubles, and I've already told DH that he gets a bed with our 4 yo and I get one with the 2 yo, that way we don't end up with all 4 of us in a double!

Because you want all of that but at Disney DUH! I also don't read this as them not doing the HM rooms.

Why are people hating on Princess. Sorry the Mouse may have started Disney but the princess keep them in business.

:lmao:

We just like having the extra room :rotfl::rotfl:

Looking at the pictures, it doesn't scream princess. Like a pp said, it's more royal-like. It's not bright pink and girly. It looks mature. I could see little boys staying in a room like that. With that being said, I would stay there. :)

While I too would want HM rooms, I don't know how many families would want to stay there. I think the biggest concern is kids being scared. I know when I was 10, I would not have wanted to stay in a HM room because I was scared of ghosts. I cried before we even got to the HM ride. I didn't want to go on at all, but I went anyways. I couldn't even imagine what I would have been like had I been in a HM room. :sad2:

Well you might want that at Disney, but I sure don't. I go to Disney for Disney, rides, and food, not for health related things. Duh! ;)

Why are people hating on Princess. Sorry the Mouse may have started Disney but the princess keep them in business.

But there is such a thing as too much. There are too many Princesses around as it is, and these rooms just add to the whole Princess overkill.

And where do you see on the blog that HM rooms are mentioned? "The absence of proof is not proof"

1) The internal rumor is the elimination of 5-people rooms at POR.

Too bad. This will likely price us out. Although with our oldest being 16 and our youngest 9, we were getting to that point anyway. I know that the family suites are an option, but I have become real spoiled by a moderate. I love the landscaping, boat to DTD, food court and pool/hot tub at POR. When we can't stay there (probably by next year anyway), I will be considering other destinations. A little bit of luxury has become a must for me.

Disney used to advertise itself as a place for all ages, adults as well as children & families with children. There are still some advertisements that try to focus on that. But unless you've got a lot of money, WDW is now being totally kiddie-fied.

Yes, the health suites are more "adult" but I can't afford to stay in the cheapest room at CR now, never mind in a suite or a premium "health room." I daresay few can. CBR went off my charts when they went so far into the pirate theme - not just the room, but the pool as well. Now POR's going Princess. And of course there's no more adult evening entertainment.

This Disney fan with grown kids thinks that this year will probably be her last AP, and maybe last trip until she has grandkids.

Well you might want that at Disney, but I sure don't. I go to Disney for Disney, rides, and food, not for health related things. Duh! ;)Yes, but Disney is smart in knowing that there are some people who don't do that and here is their chance to get them. On this board you have many people who would never eat everything on the DDP. What about all those people who participate in the marathons? Do you think they are gorging themselves around the parks. Yes, when I am on vacation it may be what i want but I don't blame them for marketing to other types of people. Healthier people.

But there is such a thing as too much. There are too many Princesses around as it is, and these rooms just add to the whole Princess overkill. :sick:once again for you it may be but for others like myself it is not. I just had her last year and I'm super excited to be able to take her to Disney with the princess expansion.

And where do you see on the blog that HM rooms are mentioned? "The absence of proof is not proof" I guess i just think they will add them later.

Just my thoughts!
