Hi all-

Thinking about booking a Disney Collection hotel room for a change of pace with this year's points. Just my DD and I are traveling and we don't have a big window with which to use our points. I've never done this or even inquired about it. Hoping not to sound like a total idiot when calling. Can anyone let me know:

1) Is this a possibility in 2010? On the DVC website, I can only see the points charts for 2011.

2) Is availability easy/difficult/impossible?

3) Do you get housekeeping services?

4) Any considerations I should take into account?

Thanks!!

1) Is this a possibility in 2010?

yes. the point charts are probably different than for 2011.

2) Is availability easy/difficult/impossible?

probably depends. worth a call, though.

3) Do you get housekeeping services?

i think so.

4) Any considerations I should take into account?

there is a $95 fee for booking outside of the DVC resorts.

also, you cannot book the stay in the last 4 months of your use year, so that might limit your options.

2) Is availability easy/difficult/impossible?
We've had excellent luck booking the Grand Californian Hotel with points (Not the villas)

3) Do you get housekeeping services?
Yes you do! Just like a regular hotel guest

4) Any considerations I should take into account?
Even though we booked with points, we were unable to rent movies for free at the GCH like we could have if we had been in a villa. No big deal. We did get a 'welcome home' and a DVC packet and designation on our room key)

Don't forget the $95 booking fee and the fact that your vacation points are exchanged for reservation points.

Hi WildernessDad. Do you have to pay a booking fee for another Disney hotel? I didn't for our December '09 trip to the Grand Californian or our June '08 trip. Is this relatively new? Do you pay with a credit card when you book?

Thanks,
TK

Disneyland resorts are excluded from the $95 fee. WDW resorts have to pay the fee, as well as the cruise. Not sure about the overseas locations.

Grand Californian is no longer in the Disney Collection since it now has villas attached.

Currently you do not pay upfront, you pay at check-in.
