It's scary that such an incident could happen at a Disney restaurant [Disney's Newport Bay Club]. Particularly with Disney's training of cast members with regards to safely. What really surprised me was Disney's response; with a cast member reportedly saying that the injury was 'no different to falling off a bike.' 20 years ago I would have been very skeptical with such a statement, but with the current state of things at the World, wouldn't doubt the accuracy of that cast member's statement.

He is absolutely correct that this is no different than falling off a bike and landing on your face if someone did something to cause you to fall of the bike.

I have had creme brulee. It is not flammable.

Based on the description, someone screwed up and scarred her for life. Serious compensation is due.

We can learn something from this.... and it's not restricted to a Disney Restaurant.

Flambe ANYTHING is designed to ignite FLAME. For God's sake, get your FACE out of the dish. Pull BACK. Enjoy the show, but PULL BACK.

Or not burn people's face...?? I took that from the article too.

$$$ big payout coming her way. Serious injury, female, face, scarring, pain and suffering...the emotional toll ..and its disney.
This def was not Exceding expectations....
The comment about falling off a bike... ridiculous!
Hope she heals well.

Oh that poor woman! I feel so badly for her, and I hope she heals quickly.

I agree with your words of caution. However, in this instance the article states:
"the chef lit the sugar and a massive fireball came across the counter towards me."
Based on her account, it seems she wasn't leaning in to it and was actually "across a counter" from it. How the fireball happened, I have no idea, but it is unfortunate and I don't think she was being careless.

Horrible. :(

This was clearly not the woman's fault. Accidents happen, but this is a big accident. More to the point it sounds like the establishment staff treated it a bit flippantly.

This is not falling off a bike:

I hope she heals. It is unacceptable that she was addressed in that manner by management.
