I'm sending out this alert to everyone who has the Disney Chase card because it just happened to us and I have heard it happen to others.

Friday night I pulled up our Chase account online to check the balance because I had sent in a big payment and wanted to make sure it had hit. Well, there were three charges of $200 with a description of TLP TRANSACTION EXPIRED(Other) - DH and I had no idea what they were so we called customer service. After being transferred three times between the sales and credit department we where finally transferred to the fraud department. The woman did a trace on the item and all she could tell us was that it was foreign and had no more details then that. She immediately cancelled the account, credited our account $600 and issued us new cards. I just got our cards today UPSed to us and our account has been credited the payment and the adjustment of the $600.

In talking to friends they told me about someone who had this same thing happen to a Chase account and it was a foreign charge of hundreds of dollars.

All I can say is check your balance and check it online often.

I have had it happen on AMEX and other Visa cards, it's not exclusively a Chase problem.

I just checked mine and there was a charge posted to my account yesterday for 474.00 with that transaction description. I'm on hold right now while they get the security department on the line. Thanks OP for the heads up! I would have noticed it when I got the statement, but the sooner you catch these things the better.

Thanks - I checked mine and was forced to look at the balance I owe by 10/8 :) No weird charges though....just $900 worth of gas!

Another wonderful tidbit about the Chase Disney Visa card - even though they advertise 6 months at 0% to pay off a Disney vacation, that will really only work if you put NO OTHER CHARGES on that card during those 6 months! The reason is b/c payments are allocated to balances with lower interest rates first, then to balances with higher interest rates after that. So even though you TECHNICALLY have 6 months at 0% to pay off the Disney balance, if you put a lot of charges on the card every month but pay it off monthly, as I do, then you won't have 6 months. I had wanted to pay off my monthly charges each month, as I normally do, and then pay 1/6 of my Disney balance each month for 6 months. And I can do that, as far as the balances go, except I'll still get charged interest b/c in the first month I'll really be paying off my Disney charges, and still accruing interest on my monthly charges. I tried to question them on it, but no go, they refuse to budge. So if you had planned on doing this, be sure you don't use the card or have any other balance during the 6 month 0% period!!!!

Just double checked and so far so good. Thanks for the heads up. Wonder what the deal is with that. :confused3

Actually, this is true of almost all credit cards with low / zero percent financing intro rates. They apply the money to the promo balance first and then to your regular monthly charges... I agree, it's not right, but it appears to be standard practice in the credit card industry. :guilty:

Yep, I learned that the hard way many years back. The only card I'm aware of that doesn't do it that way is a Sears card (the regular store card, not the VISA - I'm not sure about the Visa)

I'm surprised at the problm wit the 6 month no interest financing promo, Yes, most accounts do opperate that way but the Disney card isn't supposed to. Mone was 6 months for finance. I could still use the card and pay for a portion of the trip as well as the other charges in full. This was a big discussion on the budget board with most having it work as it was intended.

Chase has since changed this. Payments now apply to the higher interest rate first. I know this firsthand as I had some charges with interest and some charges with 6 months at no interest.

Now here is something interesting...my room only reservation was coded in at 6-months interest free. :confused3 I thought it had to be packages.

Checked mine and thankfully there were no bogus charges.

So are people who use the card for everything saying they have not paid amount connected to Disney vacations and had no interest charged on that balance?

Do you know when this was changed? I ask b/c I inquired about this only about 1 month ago, and per their customer service dept., this is the way it was being done at that time. Did you have to get them to change it manually on your account, or did it just automatically show up that way?

I had the same bogus charge hit my Chase Disney Visa. They were very easy to work with about it once they figured out what it was. They credited the amount back no problem, issued new cards, and I've had no problems since. :)

The card has a very high interest rate, but my DH was able to talk them down after saying we were going to cancel the card if they didn't lower the rate in comparison to our other card's interest rate.

We try to only use it for large purchases and for our trips anyway, so I don't know if we're getting the free interest or not. I usually try to pay it off right away - I hate credit cards.

I'm bummed that you can't get two different styles for each credit card. I want Lil Mermaid, but DH refuses to carry it so we're back to Mickey, Donald and Goofy - not that that's a problem.

Just checked mine. No bogus charges.

It showed up that way. Both my DCL deposit and my DCL payment-in-full. And my payments applied to them LAST.

When I get my next statement I'll see what happens with the lastest charges coded at 0% interest for 6-months. Reading the fine print though, it looks like the payment should apply to the higher interst rate FIRST.

I think I've solved the mystery of these charges. Last night I was thinking more about this. Something about the amount of my charge, 474.00, was stuck in my head. And then there was this other thing. When I was talking to the fraud department they were going over some other charges to verify if they were legit. They all were and then he said 'Walt disney world for 200.00 on 8/10." I didn't remember this exact amount, but I have been planning my upcoming trip and had booked a few things so it was possible. (I was at work so I couldn't check anything right away). When I got home I went through my receipts and Quicken and I didn't have anything for 200.00. Then I realized that the 10th is the end of my billing cycle. If I was charged 200.00 on 8/10 that should have shown up on my last bill and it didn't. Then it all started to come together for me. I had booked a package to Disneyland back in the winter. In January I made the down payment of 200.00. In February I paid the remainder of 474.00. August 10th was the last day the billing cycle where I no longer would get the 0% financing on the 200.00. September 10th was the last day of the billing cycle where I no longer would get the 0% financing on the 474.00. Apparently when this happens, when you look online you see it as a charge to your account, but it does not show up as being added to your balance again on your statement, at least it didn't with the 200.00.

I wish I would have figured this out before I called. I feel bad for calling them and having them close my account. Plus that in and of itself is going to be a pain, changing my account where I have it auto charged and stuff. But it is better to be safe than sorry. And I'm glad to know it wasn't a true fraudulant charge. Do you think I should call Chase and tell them?

Give it a try. I'm nt sure they can stop a void and issuance of a new card, though.

No, I don't think they can either. I was just thinking that they might want to know what this "charge" is so that if someone else calls and questions it they can answer the question. I still think it's odd that they had no idea what it was.
