A Walt Disney World bus collided with a car in Orange County, Fla., Thursday reportedly injuring at least one person, according to Local 6 News.
The wreck happened just before noon at World Drive and Topiary Drive.

Witnesses said that there are several victims in connection with the crash but the extent of their injuries is not known.

Motorists are urged to avoid this area Thursday afternoon

How horrible! that is my biggest fear when riding the bus system. Everyone standing holding babies all the packages and strollers....Last time we drove our car to each park and I have a feeling we will do it again.
hope no one was seriously injuried. That is tragic

Unfortunately, maybe that's what the people in that car that was hit by the bus thought...

Ya never know...:(

Yes that could be true but at least I know my children are strapped in their car seat. and DH and I are seat belted in and not standing! I never worried about the buses when they were all on back road, Disney streets but now they are on the high ways with lots of traffic.
I really wish the monorail went everywhere!

I loved the bus system when I was there, and an accident can happen anytime.

My good friend (and DISer) Jaimee is at WDW right now w/her DS Isaiah, Mom and step Dad. I'm sure they weren't involved in this....at least I hope not!! :(

On this past trip we had 2 drivers who got LOST!!!One "forgot" which park he was driving to...the other simply was new & went on wrong road. Several times I felt the drivers exceeded speed limits.

When we were there in Dec 2000 we were almost involved in a bus ramming into the back of a Jeep Cherokee as we were entering OKW (the bus driver was not paying much attention and gunned the bus after the gate was raised). I went over the back of a seat and my dd almost was thrown from her seat also. I was in some pain after that - then we had two other near-misses the whole time we were there....I was very nervous this past December when I rode on the bus and always made sure I was sitting and hanging on!!!!! But I wouldn't give up the bus system for the world!

I heard of an incident recently where a WDW bus hit a guy on a bike who was dressed all in black at night! The rider was ok but the bus driver sure was shaken up.

I love the bus system at Disney, but I refuse to go on a bus if my Grandchildren do not have a seat. I wait for the next bus. I have seen some of these buses packed like sardines at closing time.

While I realize accidents are rare on Disney buses, I still use a little caution.

Pixie Dust to the people who were injured. Sure hope it wasn't serious.

Oh goodness our Disney Bus experiences have gone from a guy who drove as fast as the bus would go to one who drove 15 MPH the entire trip. Still I wouldn't give it up for anything! Hope everyone is okay that was involved. Which interesection is this??

Hate to be the only one going against the grain, but given the number of bus trips and busses that Disney has going in any day, it was inevitable that an accident would happen. I pray that everyone is okay, but I would be interested to know what the percentage of accidents is for the number of trips per bus. I would bet not very high at all.

At Thanksgiving a co worker, who is pregnant, was on a bus and sitting right at the front. All of a sudden, they realized the bus was not slowing down and everyone in front of them had stopped. Her husband screamed at the driver, he jerked the bus to the right as there was no way to stop, they ran off the road which had a slight slope and the bus was leaning to her side. She thought they were going to flip. The bus driver admitted he had fallen asleep! , and laughingly said it is a good thing he is a good driver and didn't lose control!!! She reported it to Disney, but never heard anything from them. Needless to say that day was somewhat ruined as she was hysterical...she said she shook for hours.

Now that being said, though I have found them to drive too fast and often feel too much lean for my liking as they took curves and stuff, I agree with Bonnie here...overall for all the miles they travel, it appears they have a decent safety record.

I hope it wasnt too serious. I, too, on past trips felt uncomfortable with people standing packed in like sardines on the bus.
Last Oct. we were headed for the Halloween party at MK and the bus was so crowded you couldnt move. My husband was standing. The busdriver didnt see a worker on one of those carts Disney uses at the resorts and had to slam on the brakes. Everybody standing went flying forward. It was so scary and we will never stand on a Disney bus again.

Hi,

We're just back from Disney tonight. Too bad about the accident. We had good bus service and no problems.

However, I often see cars try to hurry up and squeeze in front of the bus during lane merging isntead of waiting. Many a close call that way.

Herc.

I hope no one was seriously injured. I hate to hear this :(

I am at Disney right now - I didn't hear a thing about this bus accident! Wonder where exactly it happened? I'm watching the local news and still haven't heard anything. Hope all are OK.
