Disney Announces New Star Wars Lands for DL and DHS

Yeah...you got me thinking.

I've long been appalled at Star Tours...possibly the greatest pop culture franchise of the later half of the 20th century...and that's what they were willing to do...

Now the times and tech have changed...maybe too much.
Gravity still is the best Invention for amusement parks...it will never be replaced.

These "immersive simulator experience like no others" are not really ambitious nor do they create much desire to return.

Shooters are nice...but again...not ambitious.

Eventually...they're gonna have to add something but sim and "family coasters" in Florida. I hope I'm still going there by the time they get around to it.

So you think a coaster would be more immersing and better for a star wars themed Land? Personally I would love a pirate of the caribbean type ride. Not meaning a boat ride but one where you see scenes from the movie interacting. I liked to feel like I'm a part of things a tdisney..if I just want thrill rides go to a coaster park like ceder point. The happy medium would be something like the spiderman / transformers tech.

I agree that toy story land will most likely be more kid friendly, as it should be. But I hope they add another ride or two in those 11 acres. I am excited for the updates to star tours also.

All I can do is hope they don't go that way since it would be wasted on me. The fact they don't obsess over coasters is why I like Disney (and also Universal with their many simulator rides) and never go to other amusement parks.

Same with our entire family. Disney to us has always been about the experiences of the rides and areas, not being thrilled. So like you, I'm hopeful they make it things that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike (which was Walt's original intent w/ the parks).

Well. They haven't begun construction on the actual land yet so I think it's a much safer bet that Star Wars is a closer to 2020 opening for the land.yes the other little stuff will be here very quickly but that's because they aren't big additions.

I could defintely see toy story being open in 2-3 years tho.

Do you think they could rush it to capitalize on the new movie?

Star wars launch bay by the end of this year. Star wars fireworks and new updated star tours by early 2016.

I think the fact they are coming up with those 3 small fixes so quickly tells us they will do the improvements ASAP in phases and I would think it would be done in 2 to 3 years. Just a guess until we hear otherwise.

Haha, add some Star Wars music to the fireworks = 'Star Wars Firework Spectacular' - CHECK
New 2 minute CG video for TFA = 'Star Tours Featuring The Force Awakens' - CHECK
Selection of props and costumes from TFA = 'Star Wars Launch Bay' - CHECK

Seriously, the only attractions that'll be open in this new Star Wars Land at Disney Studios in the next 2-3 years will be the gift shop and themed restrooms!

I can't believe Disney plays the same 'great things are gonna happen' card every time and people fall for it.

Like I said before, 5 years before the first E Ticket

They said story elements are being kept secret because it will contain elements from the next three movies, if that helps to think about timeline.

So over at WDWMagic someone by the name WhatJaneSays came up with three potential 14 acre layouts for Star Wars land at DHS. I'm blatantly stealing them here for discussion purposes.

In all of them Muppets is a risk and in two of them Indiana Jones would be in the construction area.

Rush Star Wars? Heck no Star Wars is opening this year in December. We do however have new Star Wars movies coming out for the next 6 years at least and the fan base is huge.

Toy story 4 is supposed to come in 2018 if I'm not mistaken so that would be in line with that land opening.

I've also seen others over there where muppets is not at risk.

Oh someone has the upgraded Google Earth, fancy. I can't see layout 2 happening. The Hyperion Theater is too useful and can you imagine the visual conflict between the chinese theater and just off to your left an alien planet.

No no...

To be clear...I'm not saying "I'd like a coaster"

I think they could do a coaster and satisfy a large market.

Disney has done many rides well...it could be line a pirates (modernized)...or it could be like the very enjoyable,
Lasting medium thrill/themed rides they currently have...

What do I mean?

Splash mountain and tower of terror represents some of the best Disney has ever done...a combination of great theming...a unique storyline... And some good old fashioned newton action.

That's what I would want for Star Wars...

Circle vision, 3D, shooters, motion simulators, gravitron simulators, family coasters (known as junior coasters to the world before Disney managed to convince people they were "awesome!!!!" With dwarves on them)...
Have kinda become old hat.

In a way...these things do seem like the long awaited "response" to potterville...along with the avatar...

Where ya been fellas? Going on 10 years and you aren't close.

Now that the right shoulder is talking...it provides further proof of just how wrong/mismanaged wdw has been for 10 years...

Tinkering to fantasyland/toontown and what now looks like classless whining and complaining about discounting and "lost profits" during the credit crash/housing bubble...

Didnt stop anybody else across town from really reinvesting...

Oh well...hopefully they'll restore some faith and do this with some urgency.

Really silly to "start development" when the movies are rolling out and try to " capitalize" after the sheen is long gone.

I just received an email stating that Disney visa and Lucas film will be offering a special cardholder Star Wars meet and greet with Darth Vader. It will begin in early 2016.

Was this from Chase or Disney? Would you mind posting the email contents here?

I'm trying to be upbeat/ benefit of the doubt here...

But I have to say...I'm getting the "rotting fish" vibe a little here too...

It's just a problem that we have seen..."look what we're doing...but don't stop coming while we "do it right""

And we all get 5 years older...I think of my kids everytime this happens...it's disheartening.

They show no urgency...no desire to give back/reward any loyalty. But those DVC units waste no time - do they?

The most consideration as a longtime, $100K Patron at a fairly young age is they keep rolling out new upsells to sell me.

No...I don't want any damn aulani!!!

There should have been a backlash already...but wdw patrons have been horrible, disempowered (is that a word?) consumers.

Me too... All of us.
