Miramax Films co-chairman Harvey Weinstein proudly announced today that Martin Scorsese, one of the country's most formidable directors, has reached a five-year first look deal with Miramax to direct, produce, and executive produce projects that will originate from both Miramax and Scorsese.
The deal is an extension of Miramax's collaboration with Scorsese on the ``Gangs of New York,'' which recently completed production at Cinecitta in Rome and stars Leonardo Dicaprio, Cameron Diaz, and Daniel Day-Lewis in his return to the screen. The deal also includes a five-year first look agreement with Scorsese's producer, Barbara DeFina.
``That Marty would choose to make Miramax his creative home is everything that I have always wanted and imagined,'' said Harvey Weinstein. ``It goes without saying that he is one of the preeminent filmmakers of all times. All of us at Miramax more than look forward to collaborating with him on new projects, having recently been privileged to watch his mastery at work with the ''Gangs of New York.``
