Disney "adult" eating off kids menu at 50's Prime Time

I'm looking for some information from people who have had experience with Disney "adults" eating off the kid's menu at 50's PTD. I have a picky 10-year old that likes the chicken tenders at '50s. Others have said that he can order an adult-sized kid's meal but does that mean he can still get the adult choices for drink and dessert? I know it is at the server's discretion, I'm just looking for people experience Thank you in advance.
