Our upcoming trip will be the first my youngest is an “adult” on the DDP. He is very picky, to the point that not every kids menu even works for him. Will most table service restaurants allow him to order from the kids menu? My older one will eat most things, so we haven’t had this issue before.

I realize it’s not a great value as far as the amount of food, but I’m not worried about that part. We’re traveling with grandparents and the dining plan will simplify things for everyone.

You’ll have no problems at QS eateries and rarely at TS. I’ve no idea how it’ll work regarding sides such as milk (frequently listed as drink portion of kids meal) vs. soda.
Have fun!

Nobody will care at quick service. I order kid meals as an adult all the time.

For table service meals, most will not care at all. Places with a fixed price will still charge the adult price, but when that happens, they usually bring out a larger portion of the kid meal food. So he could get a larger plate of chicken tenders or mac n cheese if that's what he wants.

If you are getting the DP I would try for mostly buffets or family style so there are choices. Most TS however will make an adult size children's meal maybe not exact as to what is on the menu but may sub certain sides etc. Better to have a list of what is liked and look at the menus to see if there is something that fits - adult menu as well you can ask for sauces to be left off and sub sides.

My daughter is an adult but has a small appetite. She was able to order a kids meal at both Beaches and Cream and Rose and Crown last week.

Most sit downs allow adults to order offer the kids menu- they just give a larger portion/charge more.

My experience is when my son was 10/11 nobody asked how old he was and charged us kid prices (except at buffets where he was an adult). Now that he is a teenager if he orders off the kids menu he still seems to get kids pricing and portions (he's 13). In fact we haven't experienced him not having that experience yet.

As others have stated at quick service this is not an issue, at buffets, character meals, all you care to eat they will be charged as an adult. At Disney owned table service restaurants you should not have an issue. At independently owned restaurants on property it will depend but I would be prepared for no and have a back up plan.

My tiny 10 year old and my giant 12 year old ordered from the kids menu at both sci-fi and Skipper Canteen and were charged kids price for kids portions. I asked ahead at sci-fi because I knew the 12 year old would prefer the kids food and my 10 year old would prefer the kids portions and they said it was fine. I didn't ask at Skipper because I knew it wouldn't be a huge deal if they charged more and brought the 12 year old more food, but they brought him the regular kids meal at the regular price.
