Disheartening news

I went while 8.5 months pregnant and couldn't eat a big meal in one sitting. Between the baby taking up so much space, and a strict meal plan from gestational diabetes, kids meals were the best option for me. We didn't have any problem with our DDP meals or our OOP meals. (Free dining)

I too have to pipe in here. May of 2008 DD20 ordered off the kids menu about have of our meals, we were on the DDP and they just brought her extra and DS11 ordered off the kids menu our whole trip in September and we were on the free DDP. They never gave us a problem.

I just got an email from WDW in answer to my question that says "Although we appreciate your interest, please know the children's menu is
exclusively for our Guests age 3 to 9. All Guests age 10 and older must
order from the adult menu."
This is bad news for me, because my (then) 10yo is very picky and *won't* eat many of the adult offerings at TS restaurants. :sigh: I replied with how unfortunate it was that WDW was so unaccomodating of older children. Now I'm going to have to rethink our dining options. Well, at least I have about 6 months before I can make reservations.

We go to WDW 3 to 4 times a year and dd is 11. When I make our ADR's I tell them that and when we dine at any of the restaurants, I have never had a problem at ANY of the restaurants on WDW property with her ordering from the kid's menu.

Don't worry at all. I went last summer and ordered off the children's menu. And there is no way anyone would confuse me for a child. :rotfl2: And it wasn't because I was picky but wanted the meatloaf at the 50s prime time and didn't want to eat a lot. And I didn't have to give a reason either.

Same here...I ordered off the child's menu once and no-one blinked an eye. Check that worry off your list!

I'm certain that there isn't a restaurant at Disney that wouldn't rather give you a child's dish over an adult dish, especially on the meal plan. Can you imagine how much money they are saving by giving you chicken nuggets instead of Filet Mignon or Surf&Turf?

That being said, NO WAY would I pay for the DDP if my adult-priced kid was planning on ordering off the child's menu.

Thanks so much, guys! I'm figuring there's lots of places she'll eat a burger or something off the adult menu . . . but I was trying to figure in a couple of places that had more, um, exotic food offered for adults, and those I was hoping she could eat off the child's menu. This takes a *huge* weight off!
Thanks again!

My 13 year old had no problems ordering off the kids menu for our 7 day trip in June 2009. He won't eat much that was on any adult menu. The servers were fine with it.

I think they gave you a canned response.

Yes, if you ask Disney for their official policy they will tell you you can't bring food or drinks into the park. Yet at security they will confiscate only alcoholic beverages or glass containers and anything else will pass.

When my son was 10 at WDW we only had trouble ordering from the children's menu at two restuarants.... LTT and 50's Prime Time. Both times when we checked in at the hostess stand the hostess made a point of telling me that DS age 10 would not be allowed to order off the children's menu. At LTT I asked for a child's menu and she would not give us one! :scared1: I did not want to make a scene and DS ordered an adult burger. No big deal, at many restaurants he wanted to order off the adult menu for the variety.

I would not stress about it, just be flexible and it will work well.

Trust the Scupper . . . (aka, "The TRUSTY Scupper")

1) Anyone can eat from the children's menu.
2) We do it all the time.
3) And, I am considerably older than 9-years-old.
4) However, if on DDP, the "older than 9" child will be charged for an adult meal.
5) Even if they eat from the kid's menu.

We just returned and the only place that wasn't happy that DD age 11wanted to order off the childrens menu was Tuttu Italia. She wanted the kids pizza and the waiter said it was too hard to put it in the computer since she was using an adult credit. He then saw how unhappy she looked and said "If she wants pizza she can have pizza" and I must say it was very good pizza!

My DD turned 10 on our recent trip in Sept. As far as the DDP went, she was an adult. (My decision) Sometimes she ordered a kid's meal, sometimes an adult, and at several TS (50's PTC and Kona) she was able to order a junior version of a kid's meal.(Ravioli at Kona-yum, and chicken nuggets at PTC-yuck!)

Also, a few years back, my DSis's and I ordered kid's meals at HBD-the only difference was we didn't get the free drink. Our server even offered to double or triple the meal size, if we wanted.

As many PP have stated, you should have no problem ordering a kid's meal for someone over 9.

Happy Dining!
