So earlier today I went to join a group of DISers for some friendly pirates since I found them in the lobby. They said they were already full so thats absolutly fine. I go to join another group later and my friend who was in that group(the group was full) said I could take his place since he had to go eat. So apparently another DISer in the group would not let me play and said they would wait for Bright. Instead he invites someone from his friend list to come and play while I'm standing there. Am I being shunned or just plain old bad luck :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

So they are "not polite" because they did not want to play with you and chose to play with someone else instead?

Ah well I got booted from a "Dis" game, but oh well it was probably pre-arranged, so no big deal... Sorry if you feel you were shunned you can join me anytime :) I am SneekyTiki :)

You know what's sad? I had no idea you were SneekyTiki lol!! Glad we got to play together :)

Good thing you were careful!

I played a friendly game, where non-friendlies got in. He/she said we could could trust him/her.

GUESS AGAIN!! Little lying lunatic betrayed us.

ONE HOUR. I was able to play for ONE HOUR tonight, to try to take advantage of the Double Pirates.

Everyone knows Pirate loves his Double Pirates... He gets bundles which is just enough for the weekend items. Knowing that Tiki is just around the corner, he NEEDS Double Pirates this week (out of town last Tuesday). One hour tonight was all I had... with a good band of DIS-ers, I should be able to make a pretty penny.

Think again... no one raised to the occasion. I was let down. Only made 2000 credits. Those that played today know that this is a minuscule amount giving how much Double Friendly Pirates gives out.

Thanks, friends... for coming to my rescue...

Well, yeah. When people advertise games here it seems like an "everyone can play" thing. Unless it was a pre-arranged thing, it wasn't very polite not to let her play. And would it have killed them to play one game with her while they were waiting for their other friend? :confused3 Just doesn't seem very polite to me to not let her play because they wanted to play with someone else. Seems like grade school to me. :confused3

It seems like friends trumped dis members, while somewhat disheartening, it's not unexpected (unless you were also on friend list). Friends can usually be trusted, dis members which pirate-emery found out may not come through.

If it were me, unless a game totally with friends, strangers are welcome. It usually adds variety to the game.

I know that our group tried to tell people that were only playing four people because of the lag - and the same four played together for about 2 hours.
Sometimes, you have just typed out an explanation 6 times and then somebody else comes along and it is just easier to start the game than to explain yet again.

There was a time when we were trying to find another DIS player to join us when we had an opening - it took about 10 minutes to find someone who wasn't playing with someone else or who even wanted to play.

Thanks Happy, Astro and DisneyLlama for the games!

I completely agreee with AmyE on this one as well. Perfectly said and true!
It's not an easy task to try and get a team together to play friendly pirates, especially on double credits day. And, with all the vmk crashing going on today, and major lag, it made it even more difficult to keep teams together. The lobby was full at all times. Finding your team was not an easy task. Did I say crashing?? LOL I personally crashed 3 times once, just trying to get back into vmk.
Thank-You to all my Dis friends I had the pleasure of playing friendly pirates with today as well: AmyE, Happy, DisneyLlama, Matty_D, Pink, Bright, Duck, Minnie, Dude, Krazy, and whoever else's name escapes me at the moment, I am truly sorry.
I know this is not a Thank-You thread, but I do want to voice my opinion and agree with AmyE on this one. :)

I've been on both sides of the issue, so I can understand the hurt feelings from DIS folks who show up and get completely ignored when teams have already got going. You see a ton of your friends list in the lobby, stop in, and feel totally excluded. It does sting.

On the other hand, taking the initiative, messaging people on your friend list early about getting a team of friendly pirates together is not too difficult, but then you find your group constantly struggling to stay together, get games going, keep up the pace and just as you dart back into another game you realize the tenth person booted before starting was another DISer, or a DIS member was standing in the lobby and you didn't say hi in time. Please know, it's never intentional.

Perhaps we could start a thread and organize times and teams for those who would like to be involved, especially in double credits days. That might make folks feel less intimidated to find a team without feeling left out.

(And thanks to Matty_D to start, plus AmyE, Astrogigiblue, and Happy_guest for a great team!)

I TOTALLY agree! For all those that complain about not having anyone to play with, contact three of your friends RIGHT NOW and organize your game for next Tuesday. I always put together my teams well before Tuesday rolls around (and the same for Thursdays). Everyone contributes to what their schedule is going to be like for that day and we organize our times of play and for how long we'll play based on that. It doesn't take much, but it does take forethought and organization.

I find myself on the other side of the coin of this debate which is equally frustrating. I don't mind a DIS'er messaging me or contacting me in the lobby to ask "hey, do you need another player?" That's fine! If I can fit you in, I will. But I really don't like DIS'ers just jumping into an already organized game with EVEN teams. It really puts the person that started the game in a VERY awkward position. Nobody ENJOYS booting, but it's also not fair to hold up the game for those that have planned this out in advance. It goes both ways.

I think this is an EXCELLENT idea! Anyone who needs a team for Tuesday, start a thread! :thumbsup2 But don't wait until Tuesday to do it.... ;)

Also, you may want to do this for ghost tomorrow. To rack up AWESOME credits, find 2 other players/friends. Each take a turn playing by yourself against the 2 others on a team. You can make close to a 1000 credits if you go three rounds by yourself on a team. Play 3 games and everybody has the chance to be by themselves :thumbsup2 But again, you need to organize it ahead of time!

I don't play a lot of pirates...but I will say yesterday was truly a crazy day! I played with several different teams of people. Thanks to all of you.

There were times when we were able to add people, and there were times when we were not able to assist others looking for a team. Most times we had a place for just one player.

There were times when we had trouble getting back in to the same lobby.
Trouble? Yes, there was more than one time when I was offered a vmk pass for a pirates lobby. There were also Diser's that were playing "traditional" pirates that were thoughful enough and offered to exit a lobby so the last member of our team could get in. I tried to focus on the positive. When I found myself getting frustrated with the game, I took a break.

In the middle of the afternoon, we had crash, lag, full lobbies, and full games. It got to the point the "wait to re-group" after each game seemed to take longer than the game itself. This was happening with even 4 people total on a team. Someone just popping on to vmk would have no way of knowing the situation. And of course, the vmk dictionary and makes it a challenge to explain this in messages.

When someone had to go we sent out a message, usually to someone that had previously contacted us. We tried to wait for a reply. Of course, there are times when you figure after waiting a few minutes...well they are not in a pirates game...they must be afk or have disconnected...message another player and then you have 2 people pop in to the room or respond at the same time.

I started many games yesterday. I apoligize to anyone I did boot Diser or not. Booting people is not something I enjoy. I made an effort to say playing friends, set teams, sorry, tour-knee-mint, to try and at least let the person getting booted know it was not personal.

I agree with people in getting organized before the fun day. I would also suggest that if you are on a team, give them an bit of advance notice (even if 5-10 minutes) before you have to leave. This enables them to send out a message to find a replacement, before you are gone.

Pirate, sorry the fun day did not turn out the way you had hoped. As I said earlier, it was a crazy day. One thing the day showed was fun days are a hit...so please vmk give us more!

I've always wanted to try out friendly pirates, but am unsure of the rules. Are they posted anywhere? I'm really bad at it, which holds me up during quests ... :(

Hi!
There was an old post with the information. I am sure it is still around somewhere. I just checked the players guide and can not seem to find it. I believe the title was friendly pirates Dis rules. Hopefully someone else has it bookmarked and posts it here.

In short, it is the capture the flag game. Each game is 3 rounds. Both teams have the flag at the end of each round. The teams take turns winning the overall game. So, you play are series of games with the same people.

Cool! Thanks for the link! I'll check it out and see if anyone is up for friendly pirates. Won't help me for my quests tho, since I have to do Battle for that. Oh well, I usually get lucky enough that I pair up with a good player to get over the hump.

Why not just join another game? Start your own?

Which is why ol'Pink here is the organizer and I am just the lowly worker bee! LOL

Actually, what Pink said is true, we have planned weeks in advance to coordinate times and game plans according to our schedules. Our group has limited time, especially on mansion day so it takes a lot of planning ahead of time. Nobody enjoys booting but we are sometimes forced to because of our limited time and our game plan. We do the two against one games so that each of us has a turn alone against the other two to rack up more points. Today we saw plenty of people jumping in and it was difficult to tell them fast enough that we had a game going and had what we needed. Now I realize everybody is trying to get into games, but we also waited as well.

On a final note, I can't say that I care much for Mansion double days even though the credits are big. It is difficult to start games, difficult to stay in games and you can't chat and have fun during the game. Where is the fun in that?:confused3

ROFL!!!! :rotfl2: Exactly!! What's the point of ghost if you can't chat??

Which is why it will always be a pirate's life for us.... pirate: pirate:
