Discuss the "new" menus here

Oops, sorry I said we ordered applesauce, which is true. However now that I think about it, it was one of the side dish choices, along with carrots, raisins, or fries. To us, applesauce is a dessert. Anyway, I don't think the counter service places had a dessert included in the kids' meal. Sorry for the confusion.

FYI,

Our DD7 was never a big fan of the kids menus (she thought they were boring), but these new menus would be just as boring, I'm sure. She always ordered something from the kids menu, but ended up tasting quite a bit from our adult dinners and liking our food much more. This will probably continue for her!

This was a good post for me....you see, I have never been to disney, and we are going on our first family trip in January 2007. we have purchased the dining plan, and already have reservations each night of the stay (only because I have been reading the dis boards for months, and I am trying to plan enough so we can have a better time..)
anyway, I just imagined myself ordering whatever from the kids menue for my two little ones, yet just giving them bites and food from our grown up plates. In essence, that is how we eat whenever we go out to a resturaunt. It never matters what they order, they ALWAYS want what mommy has

Does Disney give parents a hard time if they "share" food with their kiddos?? I mean, I can't see how if I order a kids plate anyway???

Well, I won't let this ruin our fun!! I guess since I have never been, I have little to no standards anyway........ :rotfl2: .I am sure it will work out!

Disney doesn't care if you share your meal with one person or ten people as long as you pay the bill. If it is a buffet that is a different story unless the child is under 3 then there is no charge for them anyway. Eat and enjoy do it just the way you would at home or anywhere else.

We just arrived back after a ten day trip and this thread has people up in arms about nothing. There are still options for the children ( the same choices on most menu's across America) and there are still some gourmet choices as well. Mahi Mahi at the Coral Reef, Child's filet at the Yatchsman, Halibut at Narcoossee's etc. Yes, 11 places have the kids options menu's with the pizza (excellent at Spoodles they substituted chicken for peperonni), grilled chicken, fruit and chicken salad, Mac and cheese and hamburger or cheeseburger BUT, if you are polite the castmembers will make any substitution that they have in the back for you, broccoli, asparagus, honeydew, cantelope, mashed potatoes, baked potato, strawberries, applesauce, grapes, raw carrots instead of cooked etc. Kona even brought out some peanut butter for my son's bread.

We were told by Spoodles that the menu's are still changing and that sometime after the Thanksgiving holiday each place was going to be able to make their own Disney approved healthy choice option available for children. It really isnot as bad as the boards make it seem. After 10 days it was still a non issue for us and the boards had me stressing the whole few weeks before.

Remember they are there to service you, they want you to be happy and feel that your money has been well spent they don't want an angry table no more than you want to be dissatisfied. Relax and have fun there really are a lot of options still available if you just ask what other options are there.

None of the meals really come with a dessert. You select an option from the menu. Under the "kids menu" part of the board, they have sugar free jello listed. People have been stating that they were only given that as a choice for children. Our experience was different. While my kids eat jello occasionally, it's not always their choice and many times we didn't want it. We were offered, several times, the option to select from the other dessert choices on the menu (including cake and often a fruit bowl). I often got the fruit bowl so that we could all share it and wouldn't be too full for dinner.

unless i misread the article that started all this, it appears that they are offering healthier options and not just nothing but fruits and vegetables. I am glad they are offering better food for kids. These foods are typically what my daughter eats and enjoys anyway. There is nothing wrong with this food. Not sure what the big deal is about it. You can still get your fries and soda and stuff if that's what you want. This is just another option. What's wrong with being able to get a bannana or apple if you kid wants one? My daughter usually asks for these foods.

And obviously feeding your kids these foods only one week a year won't make a difference. I'm not sure thats the right arguement though. The thought that someone wouldn't feed their kids healthy foods all year long is what I find to be shocking. Why should people who feed their kids well not have the option to continue to do so at Disney? I don't think anyone is losing out there. I think they are just finally offering more of an option.

It would be nice if this were true, but unfortunately, they've dropped most of the kids' fare: hot dogs, chicken tenders, and grilled cheese. Mac & Cheese and hamburgers are about all that's left.

And I don't know if this has been mentioned, but the Mac n Cheese is what we used to call Mac n Sleaze in college. This is when you can't afford the milk and butter to go in it, so you just stir hot water in the sauce!! The kids' Mac n Cheese is not Stouffers (which my kids love). I think they use that canned cheese in it. It was HORRIBLE!!! And for $3.99 or whatever we paid, I don't think using 1 cup of Stouffer's is going to kill their food budget!!

We had no problems with the Menus.
There was great stuff to chose from.
The DIS Boards had me a little frazzled before our trip that my kids would starve or something.
Once at WDW thats not the case at all.
There is so much to chose from, so many wonderful places to eat, whether its a TS, CS or Snack.....
The servers at all the restaurants we dined at were so accomodating!!
Just ask or explain your concerns and it will be okay.
DO NOT fret about this before your vacation.......its not that big of a deal once you are actually there.
I know cause we just had 8 magical days there!
Enjoy !!! :beach: pixiedust: :genie: :tinker:

You ARE missing the point. They haven't kept all the old foods and just added some nice new healthy options, they have removed nearly all the old choices. You are stating that now their are more healthy choices and that that is good, but the health food isn't just a choice - its turned into a mandate. Its a vacation, if people want to serve their child some fried chicken, it should be on the menu for them to CHOOSE!!! Point is, its NOT anymore.

It sounds to me from another thread on this topic that there are a fair amount of choices, including the not so healthy ones, so why would this be such a big problem?

I have a child on the spectrum who has texture issues when it comes to food and unfortunatley, it eliminates many foods including hamburgers, mac & cheese, chicken salad, etc. He does eat grilled chicken at home, but only if the texture is just so--same with yogurt. I have to say, although I do not allow it at home, I was planning to let him live on chicken nuggets, french fries, hot dogs & PB & J this week because these are things that he will usually eat anywhere. With these options disappearing from so many menus, I'm wondering about the pasta option as that is what I have done at other nice restaurants where there was nothing he would eat on the kid menu. I know WDW is accomodating of food allergies. Do you think they would be accomodating with something like this? Thanks!

We just returned. We asked for accomodations at Kona Cafe and Le Cellier. Both places would pretty much serve whatever we wanted for the kids that they had in the kitchen. At Kona my kids ordered the chicken (which they actually liked) along with mashed potatoes and fruit.

The one thing I did not realize that I wish was explained to me ahead of time concerning the meal plan is that even though the meal shows chicken, yogurt, sweat potato sticks, and carrots that meant the meal was actually the chicken and carrots with the sweet potatoes being the appetizer and the yogurt was dessert. If we had known this we would have had them hold the yogurt back so the kids could order dessert. We ended up paying for dessert OP.

Can you tell me what your kids had at LeCellier? When we were there in November they had steak on the kids menu. Have they significantly changed their menu when the "new" introductions were made on 12/3?

At Le Cellier my kids had:
soup (they had the beef barley but cheddar cheese soup was on the menu)
steak
mashed potatoes
chocolate moose ($3 upcharge from regular dessert)

My girls drank lemonade but smoothies and shakes are still offered as a drink.

And you were there after this new 12/3 rollout or before it?

We're coming down in February and have ressies at LeCellier and Coral Reef (for ds's bday) plus Concourse. I'm hoping that LeCellier and Coral Reef don't change their menus much since they offer terrific items for kids (ds loves CR's lobster bisque and it's his choice for his birthday night dinner).

Thanks for the update.

Just returned this week from WDW and I was shocked to see kids eating french fries and chicken strips and drinking sodas! My goodness, I thought people here said kids were being forced to not eat these things anymore!!

We ate at Le Cellier on 12/4 for the candlelight processional package.

We personally did not see chicken fingers offered at any of the TS restaurants where we ate. My kids were fine with the options but would have prefered the cf instead of the "grilled" chicken. We only ate TS 3 times for dinner though so ours is a small sample of what is available.

Please share your information: Which TS restaurants were these at?
