This post provides general information about Discovery Cove.

All prices quoted in this post are subject to change; please check park website for current information.

Discovery Cove is a unique reservations-only, all-inclusive park. The park restricts attendance to about 1,300 guests per day and so is able to provide a more intimate, resort-like experience unlike any park in the world today.

As part of the basic Day Resort Package, guests are able to snorkel with tropical fish and rays in The Grand Reef, wade beside marmosets and otters in the Freshwater Oasis, hand-feed parrots, toucans, and other exotic birds in the free flight Explorer’s Aviary, and relax in the large resort pool and swim along a tropical river.

Other amenities include freshly prepared breakfast and lunch, unlimited snacks and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), usage of towels, sunscreen, shampoo, conditioner and body wash, free equipment rentals and a souvenir snorkel.

There are many upgrades and add-on's available including the dolphin swim experience, the SeaVenture experience (an underwater walking tour), trainer for a day, ray feeding, massages, etc. More information on these and other upgrades follows below.

    Admission
Since Discovery Cove limits attendance to about 1,300 guests per day, it is highly recommended you make a reservation for your visit. Also, if you are planning on visiting during the summer or near a holiday, you should book your reservation at least two months prior to your intended visit to ensure availability as these timeframes tend to book early.

See below under Packages for a description of the three main packages that are available to book.
Discounts are available for Sea World annual pass-holders and Florida residents.
There are also several available upgrades and add-ons.
Admission is free for guests 2 years old and younger.

    Vacation Packages
Admission to Discovery Cove can also be booked as part of a vacation package at an "Official SeaWorld Hotel" or a "SeaWorld Hotel Partner”. Guests who book these packages receive exclusive benefits that add significant value to an Orlando vacation experience as outlined on this page: https://discoverycove.com/en/vacations/benefits/.

To book a vacation package, visit the Vacation Packages page of the Discovery Cove website: https://discoverycove.com/vacations/.

    Changing or Canceling a Reservation
Discovery Cove will allow one complimentary date change, pending availability, prior to your visit. Further changes to your itinerary will be provided for a nominal charge of $50 per change.
Cancellations made with notice of more than 30 days will be given a full refund. No refund is provided for cancellations made within 30 days of your visit.

    "Peace of Mind" Hurricane Policy
In the event a named tropical storm or hurricane approaches Orlando, Tampa, or a guest's hometown, the parks will reschedule or refund any vacation package and/or individual park tickets booked through SeaWorld Vacations, Busch Gardens Vacations, DiscoveryCove.com, SeaWorld.com, Aquatica.com, BuschGardens.com, or the call center. The parks will not apply any cancellation or change fees for this service. For additional Discovery Cove information call 1-407-513-4600.

    Lockers
Lockers are provided at Discovery Cove free of charge.

    Attire
Guests should bring their own swimsuits, and, if they choose, water socks or rubber pool shoes, hat, sunglasses and cover-up or dry clothes.
Guests participating in the Trainer for a Day program are required to wear footwear during some portions of their day.
With the exception of watches and wedding bands, Discovery Cove guests may not wear jewelry, for the safety of the animals.

    Swim Masks and Goggles
Discovery Cove provides all guests with a mask and snorkel. Guests may use their own masks and snorkels if they prefer, but may not bring any other diving or swimming equipment into the park.

    Wetsuits and Swim Vests
Discovery Cove provides all guests with swim vests and/or wetsuits. These are required to be worn at all times while in the water.
    Life jackets are also available.

    Cameras and Recording Equipment
Guests may use their personal cameras and recording devices throughout the park, with the exception of the dolphin lagoons (for the safety of the animals and your photo equipment). Other party members who are not in the lagoon may take photos and record video of the interaction from the beach areas. Photography and video packages are also available in a range of selection and pricing.

    Smoking
Smoking is permitted only in designated smoking areas as indicated on the park map.

    Swimming Ability
Discovery Cove has plenty to offer even non-swimmers.
Relax on the white sand beaches or one of our many hammocks or visit and hand feed the exotic birds in the Aviary.
Life jackets are provided so even tentative swimmers can enjoy the waterways as well. The devices are designed to keep you afloat, so you would still be able to snorkel with the fish in The Grand Reef or take a journey down the Wind-Away River. The life jackets can even be worn in the Dolphin Lagoon!

    GUESTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

    Accessibility
Discovery Cove can accommodate guests with disabilities who are able to maneuver themselves with limited assistance (or with the aid of a personal assistant) during their dolphin experience and in the various wading locations. Discovery Cove also offers specially-designed outdoor wheelchairs with oversized tires for easy maneuvering on the beach. The wheelchairs are not self-maneuverable and guests will need assistance operating them. Wheelchairs can be reserved by calling 407-513-4600.

    Service Animals
Discovery Cove welcomes service animals. According to federal and state law, a "service animal" is defined as a dog or miniature horse that is trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability, including a physical, sensory, psychiatric, intellectual, or other mental disability. Service animals may access all areas of Discovery Cove with the exception of the Dolphin Lagoon, Explorer’s Aviary, Freshwater Oasis, Serenity Bay, The Grand Reef, and Wind-Away River. Service animals are prohibited from entering these areas due to safety reasons, the nature of these attractions, and the presence of other animals. However, attended service animals are welcome to wait at least 30 feet from the water's edge of these areas. For more information on service animals, visit the discovery cove website at: https://discoverycove.com/en/premier-planning/general-park-information

    Expectant Mothers
No restrictions are placed on expectant mothers; the decision is left up to each individual. However, guests should take the following into consideration: the day will involve swimming with water depths ranging from 3 to 15 feet. In addition, if you have chosen to participate in the Dolphin swim experience, it will be with a live animal weighing more than 500 pounds. The experience will involve up-close activities such as kissing and touching of the dolphin, along with being towed 12 feet through the water while holding onto the dorsal fin of the dolphin. Therefore, Discovery Cove asks that you consult a doctor prior to your visit and that you ensure that you explain the nature of the interaction and activities to receive a proper assessment.

    UPGRADES AND ADD-ONS

    Other Parks
For many years admission to Discovery Cove also included 14 day admission to SeaWorld and Aquatica. This policy changed in July 2018. Admission to other parks is now considered an "add-on" to your Discovery Cove package.
When you book your day with Discovery Cove online, you'll have the option of adding a two or three visit ticket to your package, valid at any combination of SeaWorld, Aquatica, Busch Gardens or Adventure Island.
All visits must be used within a 7 consecutive day window of your day at Discovery Cove, rather than the previous 14 day window.
    Tickets cost $40 per person for a 2-park add-on and $60 per person for a 3-park add-on.
PLEASE NOTE: there have been reports of the original 14-day "free" add-on package being still available when booking with Discovery Cove over the phone or through ticket/package resellers such as Undercover Tourist, Virgin, Thomas Cook, etc. I would caution against relying on this unless you have clear documentation to support it.

Embark on an innovative experience is an underwater walking tour in The Grand Reef where, while wearing a dive helmet, you’ll feel right at home under the sea. Experience includes a 20-minute underwater walking tour and one-on-one encounters with unique animals, schools of fish and velvety rays.

Does anyone know if with the 14 day Seaworld and Aquatica pass, can you go to both parks in the same day, or can you just go to one park a day. TIA

I don't have any personal experience with this but I can't see that it would be a problem to visit both parks on one day.

Their web page isn't completely user friendly when trying to book. I can book the DC package I want with no problems but when i want to add a hotel that's the only thing it will allow me to do. Can you put a deposit down and then make payments? Looking to go next May so there's plenty of time to pay it off.

Made a couple of small revisions - integrated info regarding the Upgraded Drink Package add-on.

Anyone know what is the best time to show up in the morning? This is the experience that is kicking off our trip and we did buy the package with the Bush Gardens add on. Do we activate the package tix at Discovery Cove when we check in?

If you do not get any replies with your with your questions, use the contact email that mjhtvchick listed in the sticky above

Two of my friends went earlier this year and they gave themselves one hour before opening to arrive

Might have been over kill but they were extremely excited to be there!

They parked the car and checked in once employees were set up

If you have a dolphin swim booked, I would show up for the 7:15 check-in/breakfast. If not, it is really up to you...we usually get there around 8-8:30am. That gives us time to get registered, get our wetsuits, poke our stuff in a locker and grab a quick bite before heading to the water! :)

Since your Discovery Cove day is your first day, you can use your DC "IDs" as your passes to Sea World, Aquatica and Busch Gardens. You can always bring your booking confirmation, just in case but I have never needed anything other than my DC ID.

You are going to have an awesome day!
