Discover Cove cabana and itinerary question

We will be taking our first trip to Discover Cove this July. It's me, DH and DS (11) and DD (8). I've been reading these boards and learning a lot!

We're planning on getting a cabana through the Elite Package. Are the cabanas all located in the same area? Can I request a specific cabana or location that might be nicer for my family?

Also, do you have a recommended itinerary for the day? I know it's not like Disney and you can relax and explore at your leisure. But, it's our first time there and it's only one day, so I want to be sure we get the most out of it. If you have a plan you like to follow, or a certain time you like to eat or explore different areas, I'd love to hear it!

We were assigned our cabana, which bordered the Grand Reef, in August 2012 (we were not given a choice as to location). I honestly think you will be fine with whatever cabana you are given....the park is so lush and beautiful, you will be in a lovely spot no matter where you are.

Your itinerary or plans will be first determined by your dolphin swim time...which is also assigned by DC staff upon your arrival. Generally, the earlier you arrive the earlier your swim will be. You will probably want to enjoy breakfast after checking in, then maybe head to the aviary first if there is time before your dolphin swim (the birds are hungriest in the mornings, and are therefore more responsive to the feedings than they are later in the day when they have enjoyed their fill from all the various guests). The Grand Reef also tends to have clearer water first thing in the morning (before the sand gets somewhat stirred up by many feet) which would make for clearer viewing of the fish. But honestly, we found the Grand Reef super enjoyable even later in the day, so I wouldn't make that a worry.

The rest of the day.....toss the itinerary out the window and enjoy. Eat when you're hungry. Swim when you're hot. Relax in the cabana when you're tired. And just be sure to try and visit each one of the various areas (Grand Reef, lazy river, Freshwater Oasis, and the aviary) because they are all awesome! Plan to arrive early and stay until closing....and for the day to zip by way too quickly.

If you haven't already done so, post your visit date on the Roll Call thread so I can add you to our growing list of guests in 2014 :) .

Thanks for the reply, Gina. We are super excited to go and I'm looking forward to just exploring and relaxing without having to worry about a schedule or crowds.

I tried to add us the roll call but I can't figure out how. :confused3 If you'd like to add us, we are going in July.

Thanks!

Hi Lori :) ,

Which date in July are you visiting? Then I can add you to the Roll Call list.
