Discover Atlantis question

I've seen lots of discussion on the best way to get access to the water park section of Atlantis. I'm not interested in doing that, but I am trying to determine if the Discover Atlantis shore excursion is a good deal at $32. The DCL website describes it as a tour of "the attraction Discover Atlantis." The Atlantis website makes no mention of anything actually named that. Is it the same as The Dig? I saw some earlier threads that talked about $25 tickets to tour the hotel and aquarium. I don't know what the ferry ride costs on your own, but it doesn't seem like this shore excursion package is priced too far out of line.

Does anyone know if you get anything here that you can't do on your own for less money? Thanks for the feedback.

We were in the same boat as you and we opted for the self visit to Atlantis due to time. The tour was a few hours and we managed to to the same on our own in less time. We walk fast ... :)

The shopping areas and casino is open to you. Just catch a cab, about $4 per person per trip and you can walk around some of the hotel ground. The $25/person is to walk through THE DIG. Nice if you have never been there. We ran into the tour while we were in THE DIG, and latter in the shopping area.

We went right after breakfast, and was back at the ship for lunch. Spent the rest of the afternoon on the ship.

Yes, the Dig is the Discover Atlantis tour. The big negative is time, not money. They really rush you thru. You really won't be able to take time and appreciate the aquariums, and there are VERY many. You really won't save anything over that tour in money, but the dig itself being over a mile in walking, you're going to get too tired to really appreciate it at the pace the tours set.

din, no offense, but if you did it faster than the tour, you really missed out. Just walking around and seeing the different aquaria, both from below and above, and the glamour of the resort itself takes more than a few hours, I can easily say.

MarkRG - Please ... no offence taken... :) Please note fast here is about 3-4 hours...

We did it fast because:
-- We did the DIG only
-- with two kids we spent only about a couple of mins average per exhibit.
-- We saw some of the public areas but not all
-- We are fast walkers and we spend our free time hiking so walking that mile was not a problem
-- We were at Atlantis early.. about 9:30 AM so there was no crowd to slow us down.. :)

Is there a lower price for kids (6 & 10) at the ATLANTIS Aquarium? I believe my 10yo is classified as an "adult" in Disney Excursion pricing.

The "Discover Atlantis" excursion is priced at $33 for adults (ages 10 and over) and $23 for kids ages 3 - 9. Generally, when a price is not given for kids under 3 (as is the case for this excursion), it means that kids under 3 are not allowed.

Not sure what the kids price is for purchasing admission to "The Dig" directly from the Atlantis Resort.

Dave, thanks for the response, but I am looking for admission prices directly from "The Dig" at ATLANTIS. The other posts state a $25 price, but I don't know if that applies to my kids (10 & 6).

I don't know yet how much kids admission is(no kids of our own), but I will look in 6 days when I'm there in person, can you wait till then? :D
