Discounts with DCL when using Disney Visa and no more onboard credit

It appears that the changes will not affect your cruise in 2 months and you will still get the 50.00 beverage credit. :)

The discounts they are offering look pretty good though.

Until you read the exclusions. These offers really aren't that great. 10% off a non-discounted photo package. (You get 15% off if you book before the cruise). 10% merchandise discount that has more exclusions than inclusions. 10% discount on only one CC excursion that doesn't interest me and 20% off a massage or facial treatment that is overpriced to begin with. LOL. Sorry....I would have rather had the onboard credit. And,.....you don't even have to book your cruise with the card to get those discounts. It just has to be your card for onboard purchases.

I don't buy photos, and already get a merchandise discount as a gold CC member, I don't use the spa and we don't get the CC package they are offering.
However, I also would not drink $50.00 worth of alcohol either and I don't have a Disney Visa. :)
I just thought I would point out to the OP that the cruise she has booked for this year , according to her signature, would not be affected by the changes starting in 2017

As for the store purchase discount exclusions...check out the Macy's 20% off Discount offers and you will see that the exclusions for the discounts onboard Disney Cruise line are not that far off of those at Macys. :)

Thank you. :) Yes, that is why I said that you did NOT have to book your cruise with the Disney Visa Card to get those benefits.

I already get a OBB discount and stand to get a discount if we spend $50 on souvenirs so I'm a winner here. :yay:

We tried to use our Disney Visa for our shipboard charges last time, but I won't do it again. The cruise ship ran our card the night before we returned to port to pay for our charges (gratuities, etc) and it was declined for security reasons because we did not notify Chase we were leaving the country and it came through as a foreign country charge since we were in international waters. At least this is what Chase told me when I called them later. This is the only time this has ever happened on a Disney cruise and was somewhat embarrassing and delayed us before we left the ship to give them another credit card. I always do notify Chase when we go out of country, but forgot for the Bahamas cruise. (We didn't buy anything in Nassau with it). Also, for any purchases you might make in Nassau, there would be a foreign currency transaction fee. We get a little extra discount to buy merchandise onboard with our Castaway Gold status, so that's good enough for us. We also always book while onboard for our next cruise for a 10% discount (and onboard credit) and I don't think right now you can get both onboard booking perk and Disney Visa perk (the current drink credit). We use Disney gift cards to pay for most of our cruise fare saving another 5% with the Target red card or Sams Club, so the Disney Visa card isn't our most economical option anyway.

A Disney Chase card should not decline when on a Disney Cruise. That's just crazy.

If I register my Disney Visa as credit card on file for the ship, but also have gift cards or disney rewards that I want applied toward my statement, will I still get the benefit?

From DisneyRewards.com:
Here’s how to take advantage of your new Disney Cruise Line perks.

The way I read it, the discount will be applied at the time of purchase. Adding your gift cards & redemption cards as basically an onboard credit should not impact any discounts.

If I register my Disney Visa as credit card on file for the ship, but also have gift cards or disney rewards that I want applied toward my statement, will I still get the benefit?

Yes. If you have a Disney Visa on file, "DV" will be printed on your KTTW card (in the corner). You will get the 10% off of (most) merchandise in the gift shops, and we used it for a discount on a CC excursion (we were just on the Dream). You do not have to book your entire cruise or use the Visa for the excursion to receive the benefits (there's also a spa discount when in port). We had it on file but used OBC and Disney Dream Reward dollars first. The very last thing that was charged was our Visa (only like $157 since we used the OBC and Dream Rewards first). And you still have 6 months to pay it off. Win win!
