Discounts on Villas?

I am planning a trip for possibly Oct 2013 or Oct 2014, during F & W. Ideally I would like a 2 bedroom villa at either VWL, BCV, BWV or BLT. VWL is my first choice. Others are a crap shoot. Or I may go for a cabin or room at the Poly.

(BTW - what are the usual discounts on the cabin and Poly?)

Using historical information, are discounts offered on these villas? If so, how much and when do they come out?

My alternative is renting points either through David's DVC or another Dis'er who will rent to me. But, since I am looking for something during F & W I should probably book as far ahead as possible.

Would it be more to my advantage to rent points to secure the room or would I save more by a discount but risk the possibility of nothing being available by the time the discount appears?

In other words, what is the best way to do this for the least amount of money but the assurance that I get what I want.

Your best bet to get what you want is to rent points as early as the bookings become available. However, note that the rental is payable in advance and is non-refundable. And housekeeping is limited to towel service on day 4, for stays of less than 8 days.

Villas are often included in discounts, but their availability may be limited. For example, I got an AP rate for a 1 BR Kidani villa. But by the time the AP rate came out, there was nothing left at the Epcot villas for the week I wanted during F&W.

I got the 40% room-only discount on a 1bedroom in January this year. And we booked after the discount was available for a bit. So it is possible, but, as the PP said, it all depends on availability.

We're actually planning to do the same, a 2bdr villa, for Christmas 2012. I'm planning to book when the rooms become available (not with points). Then if a discount comes later, great. If not, I'll pay rack. But partially to maximize my chance of a discount, I'm planning to book BWV. In my experience, BLT and BCV book up much faster. Also, studios and 2 bedrooms tend to book faster than 1bdrs. I know looking right now for my Oct dates, BCV is full and BWV only has one bedrooms.
