If you make your reservations several months in advance and then Disney offers a special package for the time that you will be going, are you eligible for the discount? For example, I am planning on going next October. I just looked at the Disney website and it looks like they are now offering special packages for October that would have saved me almost $400 (if I was going this October). I know that I am going next year, but I am thinking that they will offer the same package next year. Does anyone know how that works? Would I have to cancel my reservations and make new ones or would I just be out of luck? Should I wait a month before to try to make reservations? That seems a little risky....although I will be going at a slower time of the year, than say summer.

If you have made your reservation through Disney, you should be able to call them and change the reservation to a new one, transferring any deposit money you have already paid. If a discount comes out, you should contact them as soon as you hear about it, because there can be limits on the number of rooms allowed for a discout.
If you have used a travel agent, some of them will keep track of disney discounts, and will try and get you the discount. You should probably discuss this in advance with the travel agent to let them know what you would like. If a discount comes out very close to your departure date, and depending on the type of reservation you currently hold, there could be a fee charged for changing the reservation.

We make reservations thru disney;but we do not pay it off. Then if a deal comes out later, we call cancel and rebook.

Most travel agents that specialize in Disney know when a discount is coming out, and are on the phone at 7AM EST that day changing all of their clients reservations over to the discounted rate.

Disney Visa cardholders have been getting a 2 or 3 day advance booking window over everyone else too. But the deposit has to be paid on the Disney Visa.

So for the best chances of scoring that discount -- get a Disney Visa card and/or use a Disney specialist travel agent. If you prefer to do it yourself, when the time approaches, be online watching for someone to post notice of a discount every day.

Just FYI, if you are paid in full but it is more than 45 days out, they will credit your cc back for the difference. I have this done for clients all the time.

What happens if the discount comes out less than 45 days from your trip? Do you have to cancel and re-book? Is there a fee?

Well, this is what happened to me today:
First of all, we booked in May for our trip comming up in October: 24-29. We were paid in full as of 9/5 and have around 35 days or so until we arrive. :cool1:
SO I saw on the DW website about their special rate $355/night for adults incl. tix- I'm sure you have seen it to and that's why you started this thread.
So I called reservations to see what my options were. I explaind to the CM what I've just told you, and asked how it worked if I wanted to change my reservation to get the new rate. I was EXPECTING TO BE TOLD that b/c we are less than 45 days out, there would be a cancellation fee, and that there would be a deposit required on a new package booked, and I was hoping I wouldn't lose m,y ADR's by cancelling and re-booking. The difference in price came out to about $280 for us with our plans, etc. So if I had to go through all of this it probably wouldnt be worth it for me. So she started checking some things, and asked me questions about my current reservation like what package and which resort and ticket options then told me the difference in price was about $280 and it was done.

"What do you mean its done?"
" I changed it to the new price, you're all set. We can credit your card back with the difference, or if you would like..."
" I dont understand. I thought there would be fees and more fees and a new deposit and... ... and that's it?! It's done"
" Yes. If you would like we can keep the funds in the account and you can use it for spending $$ while your here with your key to the world cards."

So, long story short- I guess all you have to do is ask. Maybe if the price difference is less than certain amount they don't charge any fees, or maybeit's just my lucky day, or maybe unbeknownst to me the cast member just charged me for another vacation???? I dunno- seems a little too good to be true. SO not only are we paid in full, but we leave in a little over a month and now we don't need any extra spending money!!!!!!!!! :yay:
At least for now- I am a pixie-dust bunny! pixiedust:

That's awesome PottersMom! Congratulations on getting the discount. Sounds like I probably would not have any problems if I book early, pay in full, and then a discount is offerred. Woo hoo!
