Hi all....I just got off the phone with CRO after booking my next trip to the Poly and inquiring about the ever elusive discounts. No discounts for me (yet...fingers crossed) but the gentleman at CRO was more than pleasant and filled me in on some scoop about the discounts. He told me that any discounts that people have been receiving are NOT random!! Disney marketing has a way of determining who gets one and who doesnt. He claims that no one at CRO has been clued in as to how it gets figured out and I did not want to press the matter any further since he was giving me some insider info. Now only if we could crack the marketing code so that we could all have a share in these discounts:)

right, it's called Marketing 101. It's the opposite of the frequent buyer/flyer club - "why incent someone with a discount if they're gonna book a ressie anyway... let's throw a loss leader out there to the person who needs to be pushed over the edge to pick up the phone and book... someone who doesn't have a pattern of coming back every x# months."

ah, the target market!!...... :surfweb:

maybe they haven't taken marketing 102, where they learn that it is more cost effective to keep your old customers, than to try to gain new ones. It was drilled into my head that retaining customers and clients is a way to build your business, if you keep the loyal customers happy, they will spread the word for you. :confused3

My family has made over 20 trips since 1982. Last year I got the 40% off code in the mail and just the other day received a 30% off code email. We had just been there in Feb. Since we go at least once a year I'm thinking it is random.

As near as I can tell from watching all this code talk for months around here, the 30% and 40% seemed to overwhelmingly go to those on the East Coast this time around- while the 20% seemed to be targeted at those who ordered the planning DVD and hadn't been in a couple of years irregardless of what part of the country they lived in... (While this is not to say only East Coasters got the big one, but it seemed the majority who did live there...)

My experience with codes:

I got my first one ever 2 weeks after we returned from a 10 day WDW vacation at Christmas for 40% off many dates in 2007. So of course I booked a trip in August-it would have been like throwing money away if I passed it up!!!:rotfl2: I had ordered the planning DVD back in October 2006.

I just got another code last week for 20% off. I got an email a few weeks ago asking me if I wanted to order the new planning DVD-so I did. Unfortunately-or maybe not- I've already booked 2 trips for this year and have already rented points from DVC owners for these trips-so I can't use my 20% off code! I do feel better that I saved more money renting points vs. rack rate at 20% off-but I can't help feeling bad that I didn't use my code! Isn't that crazy??? You never know if you'll ever get one again.
