I had read a post on here back from 2004 that said that if you worked for the federal government you get a discount on tickets at DW. Is that true? I am not in the military but I work for a branch of the federal government....help?

Up until a few months ago (November) I was a federal employee. My agency did not issue any type of perks like that.

I know that members of my family that are military do get perks such as ticket prices, Shades of Green and things like that.

Until about 2000 Disney had the Magic Kingdom Club which gave membership cards good for discounts on rooms, tickets, and merchandise. Many Federal Agencies participated in this Program. From about 1992 until the program ended I was the "Chapter Director" for the Federal Judiciary.

The good old days. I was a member of the Magic Kingdom Club. I will have 32 years in with the government June 3. 3 1/2 years I'll be 55. But I have a 14 yo. What was I thinking??? LOL

Several months ago I asked the director of my local employee welfare group at my federal agency - he said they've tried several times to get discounted Disney tickets, all to no avail. Bummer.

Vester,

If you have a government ID card then you can buy tickets at Shades of Green. Also you can go to your local government Morale, welfare and recreation (MWR) to purchase tickets in advance. Shades of green is the cheaper price of the two options. PM me if you have any questions. I have been purchasing tickets for family and friends for years with no problems.

Good Luck,
Debbie

It should also be mentioned that DoD civilian employees (to include those working for the Army Corps of Engineers) can also book rooms at Shades of Green on WDW.

As for all other federal agency employees, there are no other known "perks" for Disney.

Check www.shadesofgreen.org for more info...

I don't know if this will help, but I thought I would let you know. I work for a school district here in GA and we have access to something called "Sparkfly" which is a discount/perks program. There are discount tickets to WDW on it; however, I found that Underground Tourist/Mousesavers were still cheaper.

We went March 2010 and my husband looked in to Fed Employee discounts before we booked (he's with Treasury) but there aren't any. Sorry.

That's only military, POWs and DoD employees and contractors. Not DoL.

When we went to WDW years ago(2000), my uncle who is a DOD civilian employee was able to purchase discounted tickets for us in advance even though he was not traveling with us. I'm guessing that's not possible any more??? Does the employee or serviceman/woman now have to be going to the parks with you?

DOD gets a discount? HOW DID I NOT KNOW THIS! THANK U!:cool1:

I used to be able to get them through MWR at my old duty station, but the MWR doesn't have them for civilians here. I believe you can get them either way with your DoD CAC at Shades of Green, where you can also stay :goodvibes

I remember this too! My Agency participated in this and I had the card. I retired from the Federal USG after 30 years and turning 55 this past September. Still young enough to enjoy many more years in WDW. I retired less than a year ago and have been to WDW 4 times now and my next trip is in August. I know at one time folks over at NSA could buy discounted park tickets. Before my DH retired from the CIA he use to get the MK Club card from his HR department.

My SIL is in law enforcement, and I asked him to look into any perks, but he hasn't yet -- I doubt there is anything. Maybe Swan and Dolphin for Federal employee discounts.
